I didn't research this thoroughly so take it with a grain of salt, but i think one of the TD guys was making cockpits for the AAA mod team. I could be wrong of course, but the most possible way i would be wrong is if he wasn't involved with TD at all, as i know for a fact he was a cockpit modeller for mod aircraft.

In a simple words, what would you choose (for the same price): a car modified by, say, Brabus, or the same car modified by some greasy guy from a garage next door?

Certainly, there is a small probability, that this greasy guy can do things as good as an "official" industry, but in this case, he usually would turn into something like Brabus very soon.

So, something like this happened to the DT. Unfortunately, there is no one in the modder community, who could reach their level so far.
I don't disagree with that, that's what i was saying all along and that's the defining factor between TD and the unofficial mods. For example, a mod plane could have a truckload of polygons because they don't need to stick to certain standards, an officially patched add-on plane will have a certain set of guidelines to follow, like running on older systems for example.

For me it's all good. I have loads of new content of varying quality to experiment with, i don't have to fly the low quality content if i don't like it and i can always find a server to cater to my needs as far as a fun and realistic scenario goes. As far as nobody is stealing 1c's money or making money by modifying their code i don't have an issue with it. The implementation was done by following a dangerous path and not the most desirable one, but in the end i think that self-policing worked for a substantial part of the community.

Some of that content is not so good (for example, slapping a generic cockpit to each and every ex-AI plane and making it flyable), some of it is commendable like flyable heavies with add-on cockpits, and some of it is downright impressive even it's not official (FW190A3 anyone?). I'm pretty sure i'll be equally impressed with the Italian birds in 4.09, i can't wait to fly the SM79. The more the merrier i say and if we get working radar and some late war twins (the mossie and the 88 families are some of my favorite aircraft), we could have a night fighter campaign for the first time ever. I can keep flying IL2 for the next couple of years with all that, it sure helps the time pass until SoW is finished
