Hi everyone

I've had this game for a while but I cannot really get started on it because I'm having some difficulty with my G940 joystick.

I apologise if this has been asked many times but I have tried searching the forum for other threads but have not found any that really match my particular problem.

When I start a flight it feels fine and I can move the joystick about normally and feel the force feedback when I bank or fire the guns etc...

Then after a period of time (either seconds or minutes) the joystick will go solid and I cannot move it except by putting a great deal of pressure on it. It's almost like the deadman's grip is working in reverse. If I move my hand from the sensor, I can use the stick, but as soon as my hand covers the sensor again, it goes rock solid.

Does anyone else have this problem and is there anything I can do about it. It really is preventing me from flying, and that's a shame as the sim looks great and I really want to get it working.

I use this joystick in Rise of Flight and FSX and it works without any problems in those two sims.

I would be very grateful for any assistance any of you might be able to give.

Cheers
Stu.

Hi stufer,

please provide your global AND specific Logitech G940 settings, Logitech Gaming Software version etc. ... ....

Regards

Varrattu

Edit:

Sounds that Force Feedback is disabled. Please look for

[rts_joystick]
FF=1

in your

C:\Users\Computer\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\conf.ini

The "1" initializes the Force Feedback function.

Hi Varrattu

Thanks very much for your reply.

I have checked the Conf.ini file and that is indeed FF=1 so that is alright. When I change that to 0, I have the locked up solid joystick all the time so it is as if at some point in the flight, the FFB is turning off, although I can feel it shake when I fire the guns or stall etc...

On checking the settings, the global settings are as follows:

Overall Effects Strength 65%
Spring Effect Strength 70%
Damper Effect Strength 65%

and the Centering Spring is disabled.

I have tried moving these around from 0 to 100 but it is always the same.

The Logitech Profiler software version is 5.09.131 Date 05/05/2010

Are there any other settings or versions I should give?

On having a go at it this morning I've been flying for quite a while in the Hurricane without any problems. But then if I exit the flight and load up another, say in the 109, it locks up immediately before the new flight loads and then I'm back with the same problem - very strange!

I appreciate your help.

Cheers
Stu.

Hi stufer. I have a G940 too, and FFB is not really well implemented in this sim as of yet. You mention your profiler software (which seems current I think) but have you updated the sticks firmware to the latest version? If not, this will make a big difference. It can be found on the Logitech website, don't recall the exact date (roughly 12 months ago maybe) but make sure its the latest.

For my part, I actually disable most FFB now (removing shake, autocannon and machine gun .ffe files), its too much of a pain in the arse. There is a program called Force edit by which you can change force strengths, type etc but I cannot be bothered to tinker with it......Too time consuming and confusing if you are not a tech geek type.

The setting that governs stick stiffness in the logi profiler is 'Spring strength', which you have set to 70%. That should not result in lock up at all, which leads me to think its a firmware issue. I use 50/50/50, in the 'global' profiler settings for CoD (without a specific CoD profile).

1c really needs to improve FFB, and provide more customability like ROF.....in which you can even set forces different for each aircraft, as you'll know.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. ;)

G940 firmware 1.42

http://www.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/joystick/G940_Update_FW0142.zip

Logitech Profiler 5.10.127 date 06/14/2010

http://www.hardwaretreiber.de/logitech/logitech-gaming-software-5-10-127/2010/09/14/

My global settings are as follows:

Overall force = 0%
Spring effect = 0%
damper effect = 0%

Enable Centering Spring Strength = unchecked

For CloD I use the "Specific Game Settings" configuration:

Overall force = 50%
Spring effect = 100%
damper effect = 85%

Enable Centering Spring Strength = unchecked

x-axis deadzone = 8%
y-axis deadzone = 8%

That's the ticket Varruttu, nice one. :)

Nice one indeed! Thank you so much to both of you for your help - you are true gentlemen.

It seems to be solved and I've just flown several quick missions back to back and then restarted and flown some more and it is now not locking up.

It was the new profiler software that seemed to solve it although I have updated with the firmware one as well.

Orville, yes I have read a little bit about that force edit programme but, like you, I am not very tech savvy so I decided to stay away from all of that.

Anyway, I'm as pleased as punch now that I can actually control the aircraft - it's the little things!

I wish you both all the best

Thx stufer,

Just a proposal, would you like to rename the thread in e.g. "Logitech G940 frequently asked questions - FAQ"!?

So the thread can be continued with further discussions arround the G940 ...

Hi Varrattu

Good idea - title changed!

Anyone can feel free to add their problems or questions related to the G940.

Cheers
Stu.

Edit: It doesn't seem to have taken effect in the forum - how do I change the title there?

It seems that it is not allowed to change the title. :(
