It's awesome and the best peripheral you can buy for flight sims. It makes much more difference to situational awareness than to the ability to spot enemies initially. Looking at the enemy is much more fluid and instinctively natural than using a button.

Most will say the same. Some will say different but that will be because they haven't tried it long enough, have a god-awful profile which makes using it hell, or have some sight/balance issue so they get nauseous using it. Or they just don't like it.

Get your profile right and it is perfect - for the 109 just lean left a bit then centre the view. When you sit normally you'll be right behind the reticule.
