Track IR
I'm thinking to buy a Track IR device. Especially in dogfights, it's very hard to keep contact with the target using the joystick's view button. But I heard some critics about it. In your opinion, does it make a really great difference? Isn't aiming more complicated, being more difficult to keep aligned with the gunsight?

Most will say the same. Some will say different but that will be because they haven't tried it long enough, have a god-awful profile which makes using it hell, or have some sight/balance issue so they get nauseous using it. Or they just don't like it. Get your profile right and it is perfect - for the 109 just lean left a bit then centre the view. When you sit normally you'll be right behind the reticule. Hood |
I totally agree with Hood, I don't know how I ever managed flight sims before the TrackIR system came along, I would consider the TrackIR as important as owning a joystick, and therefore a must have buy for any form of flight simming.:)

Yes get one. I cable-tied the Track clip pro to my headset because it felt a bit flimsy. However, it transforms your game completely. It can take a while to set up your profile.
The only downside is when you say to your missus "Can I buy this game, it' only £30" Then my thrusmaster hotas gets retired for a Saiteck X52 pro, then a Track IR5 becomes a must. Yeah £300 later she still quotes this to anyone who will listen. lol |
Yes,as everyone else has commented, buying one of these is the way to go,you can't seriously play without one friend;),you'll have no peripheral,up or down view without one, which makes 'dogfighting' almost impossible, and you're be woefully disadvantaged.
Re the point about keeping the gunsight aligned with the target, easy,on my Trackir profile,I have a 'pause' button keyed,so that when I'm in range, all I do is deploy this 'pause' button, centre my Trackir, and this gives me a stable 'sight to target'view, try it,it works for me. If you lose your target deploy 'pause' again and your full Trackir view is resumed,it just takes a bit of practice to get it right. |
Well, you have convinced me :). I just sent the order, in a couple of days we'll see. Thanks everybody for your answers.
