If you want a good Soviet TnB fighter, that isn't so big like the La-5FN and La-7 (They could be considered a Soviet-esque Spitfire even though they were smaller all around), I suggest the Yak-3! Why? Not only is it fashionably cool (

) but it's got all around speed, turning, and good armament. Twin Berezin UBS MGs and one BEAUTIFUL 20mm ShVAK Cannon.
