Well I get 100% what you are saying, but I dont think he would of had enough lift to recover it from a dive in time with that much control surface to even it out (for a short time). But like a missile if you are going fast enough, it could fly/kinda.

I remember a show from national geographic or discovery or history channel about a ww2 fighter pilot who did a dive, but couldnot pull out because he was moving so fast he got close to the sound barrier and the pressure on the control surfaces were so strong he couldnt move the stick and ended up leveling out just before hitting the ground. Bet he wished he had power stearing
