WW2 Bomb explosion
Tonight in central Munich an American bomb from ww2 was brought to explosion after disarming has failed.
Video of explosion is in the following link. Interesting points: The short dry sound and the time delay. http://vimeo.com/48399328 EDIT: For interested parties: It was a 250 kg bomb with delayed delay fuse conceived to explode several hours after impact in order to interrupt the work of firefighters and rescue workers. Their fuse was constructed in a way to prevent disarming it. EDITED IN ORDER TO NOT OFFEND ANY FUSE. Last edited by swift; 08-30-2012 at 08:23 PM. |

Poor Germany but; Total U.S. bomb tonnage dropped during: World War II = 2,057,244 tons Vietnam War = 7,078,032 tons (3-1/2 times WWII tonnage) War is hell. In Belgium and North of France every an each year tons of ammunition of the first invasion (1914-1918.) of Belgium by Germany are still found live and dangerous sometimes with chemicals and of both sides. From time to time in large quantities. |

Ironically, on the same day another unexploded ordnance was found - in Warsaw, on construction site of a metro line. This was a "bit" bigger example however - 600 mm shell from "Karl" mortar (don't know whether it was the 2-ton or 1,7-ton one). Fortunately we didn't have to do similar fireworks show in the middle of our city! Bomb disposal guys managed to get it out of here.
Cheers. Last edited by Art-J; 08-29-2012 at 07:13 PM. |

Glad to hear that this thing could be removed without harm or damages.
I guess they dig up several of them everyday all over Europe ... |

Uhm, I applied this to a thing, not a human being. I hope the fuse does not feel offended ...
