We’re not working on an externally set schedule, so we can sit down and do things right rather than rushing them out to meet a deadline.
I want to apologize to everybody for it taking so long. But I’d rather apologize for this than for releasing things quickly and for it to be of inferior quality."

How can we really have an in depth and meaningful discussion on that info?
Well, each thread runs its course sooner or later. What you say is not wrong, it just means we go with whatever the thread provides and if its exhausted we wait for the next one.

It's sort of like the bug report and request threads: they run for a long time but they don't generate a few dozen responses every day.

The whole idea behind the thing is that we post when we have something relevant to the topic to add, not just for the sake of it, because that's what usually tends to degenerate into circular arguments, tiresome repetition of the same topics and flame wars between detractors and supporters of certain aspects of the sim.

And that's what really makes the thread something that it wasn't meant to be, a sort of "playground" for all of us to talk about everything except the update when we are bored. Then, another guy comes along and tries to find the relevant information, whether it's a lot or just a few snippets, and simply can't because he has to sift through 30 pages of completely unrelated discussions, usually between the same dozen people who are arguing among themselves on each week and all through the week.

If the information is not enough or its potential exhausted, we don't have to forcefully keep a thread going by adding unrelated arguments and our own personal speculation on top of it.

These threads should be somewhat "clinical" in nature: a report of dev updates and a Q&A process. There is a useful array of sub-forums that are suitable to hold general discussion threads, as well as PM messages to facilitate communication between members who want to talk among themselves.

I see the thread still goes the way it used to go before and i'm having to go light on it because frankly, nobody cooperates and if i start applying the rules almost everyone will be banned due to infraction points.

I think you will agree that it's a quite sad reflection on our discussion capabilities as a community, when we are limited to choosing between bending the rules or "herding" the posters.

It would be much easier and more adult-like if everyone could simply be a gentleman and we just followed some sane, posting etiquette.

I think that you take your position here as a moderator far to seriously...always sweeping and cleaning, and handing out points. Chill

I understand that it's frustrating for him to see a whole uninteresting and irrelevant discussion about RoF unfolding just after his post asking to keep on topic. Solidarity to Blackdog, herding this cattle is not difficult, it's useless ...

Yep, quite right, I put my hands up. I think the mods here do a good but thankless task and I apologise for the diversion. It's just....you know....we don't get an update 'cause it's a holiday weekend-fair enough-but as I point out that dosen't seem to prevent "another" Russian developer putting out quite a detailed update over the same holiday weekend.

We do seem to be treated as cattle here by the dev's though and that includes the mods too I'm afraid.

Edit; MOOOO!!!!

Pardon my french, arthur, but isn't it Jason who does the updates? And if my memory doesn't fail it was not until he got involved with RoF that any kind of information policy worth the term came into being. Before neoqb's "information" consisted of cryptic half-statements that roused more questions than it gave answers, evasive answers (if any came at all) and a load of pre-scripted PR blabla ... Familiar?

If you talk about RoF's updates you talk about the heart and blood Jason puts into it. Without him RoF would not be where it is now.

Couldn't agree more. Further animosity only sends this forum into a further downward spiral. History shows that when Big-Brother type administrations are in place, it is not a nice place to live in for anyone.

Libertarian paternalism is the way forward. And so as not to stray from the current topic, that is exactly what the RoF team are exercising over their product (and no doubt the 1C team will when they can safely pull their fingers out).

Sure it is a video game....It is how you approach it...but to many it is a Flight Sim... Many video games are fun but to me Flight Sims are different... So just a video Game?...Nah..I disagree :cool

BTW...Have the Friday updates moved to every 3rd Friday?
