I interpreted B6's 'can't tell' answer as being down purely to legalistic information with-holding, ie he isn't specifically authorised yet by Luthier to divulge ANY information about the sequel, rather than the devs not actually knowing themselves.

I'm sure that Luthier said some time ago that future installments would work as BOTH standalone and merged installs. I haven't tried to hunt down that quote though.

i've been wrong on this game before, but if I'm wrong on this I'll eat my shorts (as someone else famously once said...)

Such a situation would take the devs shooting of themselves in the foot to new, previously unimagined heights.
