Adjusting the gunsight for distance does nothing to alter the convergence of the guns.

It just moves the horizontal bars displayed on the gun sight closer or further apart. It does not alter the aim vertically in any way.

In sim as in real life, Changing the distance on the sight does not alter the bullet path on the screen.

To change convergence you need to get a set of spanners and alter the angles that the guns are mounted in the wings. Not practical in flight.

It is a useful way to judge distance to target. To calculate the distance you are from target. Set the wing span on the sight, agjust the distance until the gap meets the wingspan of the target object , then read the distance from the scale. Make any adjustments to your aim and understand that your not firing at convergence distance.

Cheers

For anyone who hasn't seen it, I can highly recommend Dart's fantastic video tutorials made originally for IL2 1946.

Using the gun sight to determine range

Convergence is one thing and setting your gyro is another thing. This thread is about:

http://airwarfare.com/sow/index.php?...ery&Itemid=159

and about how the 'range to target' bit changed in last patches e.g. you don't enter the convergence distance times two anymore. No one ever assumed you would adjust your brownings in flight

If you don't have to multiply it by two then its working right.

Here the sights are set to 32 feet and 200yrds

I can't remember it working anyother way, right back to IL2. Maybe the guy in your link had his sights set to 100m?

cheers!
