I'm not quite sure where everyone is seeing this supposed "depth" in CoD.
If anything playing CoD has made me appreciate UP3 and DBW much, much more than I did before.

It's the depth of the actual aircraft (the most important thing, imho). The engine management is LIGHT years ahead of vanilla IL2. Just getting my Spitfire started and off the ground is immensely satisfying to me. I can spend hours just doing pattern work in CloD and end my session with an ear to ear grin and a huge sense of accomplishment. Add to that the ability to actually fight with these aircraft (unlike FSX, etc...) and I'm sold
