Yeah and you have a good chance of torrenting a virus/trojan down with the game. Have fun.

I think the Steam deal was done because the Dev's knew how bad the release would be, if it had been released soley in the shops half of them would of been returned by now with refunds given, the fact you cannot get a refund through steam was a very clever move and has kept the cash in Olegs pocket. Obviously not so good for us, Ive never had any problems with any game through steam before but CLOD disconnects frequently, obviously bad coding again rather than Steam.

For a start you can get refunds from Steam, at least in the EU as they are regulated by the Distance Selling Directive. You have 7 days to return them, you don't even need a reason. The rest of what you are sayings is pure BS. Steam is just a great way to get your product to millions of prospective customers. Last edited by MadTommy; 07-08-2011 at 11:20 PM. |

Besides which, most physical copies of games (software in general really) are impossible to return after the package has been opened. |

Its not.. as you know
![]() Steam sell millions of games and host thousands of servers.. I'd eat my shorts if the problem with CloD server disconnecting from Steam was a Steam caused problem. Steam might be burdened with trying to support it.. but i bet its a CloD problem. |

not being able to give/sell my game when i am done with it just means i didn't buy it i was renting at a deeply discounted rate. i was indifferent to steam (i had RO on steam) but now i am beginning to see the posibilty for this to turn ugly for the consumer...Steam is a business and as such there bottom line is all that matters and they already have the lions share of the market i can see them in the future introducing a $1.95 monthly service fee for new accounts...why? because they can .because they have the lions share. I dont mind the DDL but i don't want Tobe locked to the same company. Now all that being said it does not matter what anyone here thinks....the matter is out of our hands...we are just along for the ride ![]() S!

I like having a choice to use a DD, but i also like having a choice to use a different method for the reasons already mentioned by other forum posters before me (user-made mods and customizations, being able to do whatever you want on your own installation, etc).
As for why 1c went with Steam, i think they wanted a ready to use framework to regulate mods and separate legitimate mods from cheats during the life of the new sim. Steam hasn't been too troublesome for me but i still dislike the fact that i have to do all the run, login, wait for popups, reset my preferences (because it overrides them all the time) routine before i can fly. I also dislike the fact that it's essentially a rental service that can be shut down at a moment's notice. Other than that it has functioned as advertised on my PC and allowed me to install the sim a bit earlier than i otherwise would (i had a relative abroad pick up a collector's edition for me and e-mail me the serial so i could download it, instead of having to wait for the physical box to arrive in the mail). I think that once things stabilize we might get a choice of using it, one way or the other. Like it's already been pointed out, torrents have more uses than piracy and i've found them very useful in the past. Whenever i buy a game my usual routine is to download the same game on a torrent, disable copy protection on my installation (i have already paid for the game so it's not piracy) and keep my discs in a good condition and my game time to my own discretion, independent of any third party services and the potential technical overhead and possible problems that might occur. Needless to say, i've never had any security related trouble (trojans, viruses and the like), all it takes is scanning the files before using them to mod my legally purchased game. |
