For those against Digital sales (also Steam).

im against digital sails for myself. I wouldnt buy a thing digitally if i could buy it phisical. If other people want to buy digital go ahead.

MY problem is with enforcing steam on me. I hate it. i would like to have the CHOICE not to use it.

Exactly. The fact CoD is unstable with it (constant server log offs) does not exactly endear it to me either...

I respect your decision but i never understand this point. What is the issue with digital purchases? You can burn a DVD if you want, not sure why you'd want to though.

A physical disk can get damaged & lost, but these are not issues with digital purchases and there is no disadvantage that i can think of from using a digital download.

So please tell me why are some people so anti digital?

Exactly - so if you drop and dmg the disk you can never play it again possibly, but digitally it is there for me to DL and therefore provides security for my purchase.

Also its not steam's problem, 99% of steam games run great/smooth with it, blame the devs not steam.

its a matter of perception. i like the feeling of "grabbing" the game. When i buy a music CD 99% i already have it digitally downloaded in the PC. I probably only stare at it. Mayby play it once on the stereo, Then put it up for display. But i like the feeling of HAVING it.

AS for games, i also like to have a box. I enjoy reading the manual. I enjoy going all the way home in the bus reading the cover box. I REAALLY enjoy to check out how is the CD painted. (Best surprsie ever was seeing Cowboys from hell by pantera painted pink ).

DD is like, meh. Yeah.. its pratical... i can dowload it anytime i want... not my cup of tea.

Be sure. the only reason why i havent bought ROF, WOP and other games i was REALLY planning on buying, was becouse they were DD only. At least where i live.

not true. Ive borken my BF2 CD, easy fix. torrent it, put in my ORIGINAL cd-key. Torrents do exist for more than piracy, dispite what most believe.

I ordered the COD disk from England, but I've found Steam very usefull. It worked very well when I played Red Orchestra, and have had no problems with COD so far. I actually find Steam quick and painless installing game patches, or checking the integrety of the sim code, and repairing if necessary. Steam has been a big plus for me so far, and I trust it much more than I ever would a Torrent download.

Steam is OK for some games but flight sims really need to have things like printed manuals and control keys reference sheets so the option to buy a boxed version with these things included should always be available.

My main problem with steam games is automatic updates.

Unless you keep an earlier back up copy before each update you can never roll back to a previous version. This may not matter to a lot of people but it can be really annoying if you like to apply mods to improve a game and then the steam updates are applied and you find the mods are incompatable with newer versions.

Sometimes a game comes out, brilliant mods are created, some mods re adjusted for the first couple of patches but then for example after V1.4 will no longer work. If you happen to buy a steam game say six months after release you will only ever get the latest current verion, say V1.7 and all the good mods only work up to V1.4

Also as some people have said with Clod, the automatic new patch has had negative effects on their game that cannot be undone. Even if you have the Dvd version of V1.0 Steam will update it on activation.

I liked the old days when you downloaded the patches and applied whatever version you wanted and worked best.
