As for your 9/11 comment, really? Do you really think we needed help with this? Look at it this way, we get involved in all your major wars and when a small incident happens in the U.S. we figure "What the hell, might as well call the Brits and cash in a few favors." I'm sure the 5 troops you guys sent us will be a big help, I mean how could we fight terror without them? (The war on terror is a joke, but what can you do?) Exactly what have any of the UK forces done to help in Afghanistan? Oh right, you brought us tea! Thanks chaps! The Canadians were more help, they make good target practice for our F-18s, send more of them if you can.

Its always mentioned by someone who has no idea about the history of American involvement in Europe between 43-45 that our help wasnt really needed. Perhaps the war could have still been won without American assistance, though in the Pacific I'm quite sure Austrailia would be speaking Japanese about now, but think how much more it would have cost those involved. When Britain gave up on daylight bombing raids and resorted to terror bombing German cities at night (a tactic that did little if anything in helping to win the war) the U.S. 8th airforce stepped up and continued to precision bomb German factories and installations despite heavy casualties.
How many Russian and British lives were spared by these raids that stopped production of warmachines and armaments that would otherwise have made it to the fronts?

I'll leave it at that I suppose, this isnt a conversation/argument that anyone is going to win, just having a bit of fun with it. Please remember to keep your responses coherent and add to the debate.
Wasn't the only reason the US decided to jump into WWII the fact those Japs bombed Pearl Harbour? Don't get any high fetched ideas about American idealism back in those days. Most americans didn't give too much of a crap about the rest of the world, like now, but yeah, they got messed with.

That joke about Canadians making good target practice is borderline sick by the way.

Oh, I'm grateful you guys did jump in in the end. But both American involvement and the later Marshall help were mainly done out of self interest (had to create a buffer against em nasty commies)

You are aboslutely right, I cant think of any war fought by any country that wasnt in self interest. Sorry about my Canadian target practice joke, maybe the line was crossed.

Precision bombing my arse, bombadiers from the period have admitted it was impossible even with the fabled Norden sight, they did what every other bombadier did, watched the lead plane and dropped on their mark.

Get of your high horse fella and accept that the Good old U.S of A is just another country, no better and possibly no worse than any other.

As for your comments about the British forces out in Afghanistan, totally uncalled for, as for Iraq, in Gulf II we lost more troops to your 'precision' weapons (shoot first then deny it or refuse to allow the pilot to answer questions, even if the radio/video is in the public domain) than we did to the Iraqi's.

Better to have a yank in front than behind or above.
