yes I had the fuelcock on and I have read trough all the linked threads above. very interesting but I still cant even get the engine of the Hurricane in the first campagne mission started, whereas in my selfmade Hurricane Mission it is no problem, engin starts right away after preflight preparations (radiator, fuelcock, pitch etc. ...). I dont know? Maybe I just have to go on trying different settings, mixture, radiater etc.,... its kind of frustrating.
Probably something small I have not yet checked?

Thanks anyway for your reply

magnetos on, fuel cock on, throttle 10-20%, water radiator 50% and press start. Keep easing up the throttle to keep the boost gauge at 0 then when its warmed up push the throttle up to take off level.

Mixture is all the way down on the OSD for the Hurricane for Rich

Thanks for all your replys. The links were very interesting but I still cant get that Hurricane on the campagnes first mission started. The Germans have long time dropped their bombs, 2. wave is already coming right at me and I am still standing on the ground.
Fuelcock on, magnetos on, mixture set, radiator open, 3-5 times moved the pump (looks like a cars handbrake right?), put throttle to slightly 10%, proppitch to full - ignition - a few coughts from the engine - thats it.

I really wonder what is on that Hurricane so much different from the one I can fly without any problem in my selfmade mission? There are only 2 versions of the Hurricane anyhow in the game, can they be so different in handling?

Now that I learned to get along with the BF109 and the Hurricane, I`d like to play the campagnes. On the german campagne I get at least the plane in the air. The rather minor problem there is, I cant protect the reconflight before it gets killed (mission failed).

Well, well, .... things will hopefully improve

I think there's a problem with the mission. The centre fuel tank is empty whilst the wing tanks have about ¾ of a tank of fuel in them (I didn't read the brief so it might simulate a very fast turn around\scramble). If I use the standard Hurricane Mk.I procedures of starting up (with the fuel cock set to reserve), she refuses to fire up. However, if I select the main tank..she fires up just fine.

... how do you select the wing tanks then?
The fuelswitch on the plane has 3 positions. One closed, totally to the left, then one middle position and the 3. is turned completely to the right. I have tried to start it with different positions of this switch but none got the engine started. I have tried to find a switch for: "select fueltank" but couldnt find one. I have tried it with radiators half open, open, closed. Mixture to lean, to rich, etc,... nothing, absolutely nothing gets that Hurricane in the first campagne mission started!

Good that I can start it in my selfmade mission without any problem, at least there, so I can do some flighttraining.

I wonder if that gets fixed in a coming patch? I have read some post of others who seemingly could get it started, so the issue might be ignored?
Just because I cannot get it started is no reason for consideration in a patch.
Maybe I`m just too daft for it?

The primer pump isn't modeled in game (unlike in BoB WoV2 )

Here's the CloD Hurri startup procedure:

Open your canopy (ok, not necessary)
fuel cock: main tank
mixture: full rich
prop: fully fine
thottle: 1/2 inch open
Magneto 1: on
Magneto 2: on
Shout contact!
Start the engine

The Spitfire startup is the same, only that the fuel cock has to be switched to "on", there's no "main tank" there.

If you wanted to start her properly Reflected, switch the fuel cock to reserve and then switch to main tank after start up.
Although in game at the moment you can start her up on the main tank, something a real Hurricane Mk.I cannot do.

Thanks for the info, Moggy!
Why isn't it possible to start her up on the main tank? I'm very curious.

The main tanks were below the engine and the pump would not operate until the engine was running. So the reserve (gravity) tank was used to start the Hurricane Mk.I, this was fixed in the Mk.II and that could start on main tanks.
There's a great Fleet Air Arm 1943 movie called "Fleet Fighter" all about the training of fighter pilots on Hurri Mk.Is which I recommend to anyone who wants to learn about the Hurri.
