Unfortunately things were different with ARMA2. The game didn't use Steam as a matchmaking system, but a own multiplayer lobby instead. Therefore there were a Steam version of the game and a version that didn't make any use of Valve's service.

In CoD however they use Steam for matchmaking, so every user (even the retail ones) has to use Steam.

Makes me happy, as it falls as the best of both worlds. Available on steam for those that like that service, and not requiring steam for those of us who would rather not.

Good news indeed!
Sorry to cut short your celebrations (not being sarcastic here, I like Steam but have no interest in forcing it on people who don't like it), but when Steam is needed for a game it is usually included on the disc, in which case there is no need to download additional programs.

So, you could be right, but this doesn't clear up anything.

This sounds like really good news on the face. Steam is just a built in "Hyperlobby". No molesting my computer everytime I want to play the game. Blood pressure dropping...

Damn, we still need Steam.
