Clarification on release date, game versions & more

At the moment, only info about UK.

I don't get that part: "Finally, if you buy the physical version of the game, there will be no need to download anything additional in order to play the game. An internet connection will be required to activate the game, and for online play, but that is it. The game only uses SteamWorks for match-making and not the Steam DRM."

So the Steam program isn't needed, cause that would be an additional program?

"there will be no need to download anything additional in order to play the game."

This is the main point I think, and I'm happy to see that. The latter point about steam is a bit vague, is it only when you get IL2CoD through Steam or not, I think this is the case though.

Yes, he is saying that steam isn't required if you buy a physical copy of the game. Or you can assume if you DL the game from any vendor other than steam, steam won't be required.

Makes me happy, as it falls as the best of both worlds. Available on steam for those that like that service, and not requiring steam for those of us who would rather not.

Good news indeed!

And how do I play online with Steam matchmaking without the Steam program?

Bowtome 03-18-2011 03:25 PM

You can't even pre order on steam yet.

So the D/L version will be released Next Week? And the physical copies pushed out in the EU till the 31st. ?

Apparently Steam is just a CoD retailer. If one wants to use Steam for online play then I would imagine one would need a Steam Account, but since Steam isn't responsible for the DRM of CoD then an account wouldn't be needed otherwise. Updates/add-ons may also be available through Steam for those who have such an account, otherwise it's the old update/add-on method we're
all accustomed to.

so I presume Hyperlobby will still be ok for online play when servers become available (with no exclusive need for Steam for online play)

This just gets weirder all the time.
Now do I need to cancel my boxed preorder and get it digitally to get it integrated into steam?

Edit:
Then again its worded that "you don't need to download anything" witch is normal since the steam games have steam installation files on the disc ;)
Will just have to wait and see.
