Sorry trk. I hear what you're saying but for me, 2nd to the flight mechanics & the guns, the most important aspect of combat flight simulation is the ability to look around with ease. This explains the success of the later Spits & Mustangs with bubble canopies. OK the zoom's a bonus but here on BoP & particularly on Sim mode, it puts you at quite a disadvantage being without it as your opponent will probably be aware of you alot sooner than you are of him.

I still say though that your 1st suggestion (layout 3) is the better so far; for the SIM player (than layout 4). Each to their own I guess. I'm glad ppl are finding the patch a success but for me, the 2 burning issues were screen tearing & wanting a working customizable SIM map & I feel I got neither. And I still can't fly that damned P-51D without it stalling & spinning with as much violence as before, lol. Oh Well!!!
Yes I do believe the best place for the zoom would be R3 that would enable you to scan and zoom at the same time, I wish it would work there than I probably would use it alot for scanning.
