Hello, all!

In this thread I will post the information about my mod for MoT game.
About one week ago (after vfs unpacker bug was fixed) I have started to analyze MoT resources.
Now there is only one global task in my plans: to move missions from original DtS game to MoT addon (I want to get 17 playable missions based on MoT engine).
In the beginning I had a lot of problems. 5 of 10 missions from DtS even weren't started. All the others have funny graphical artifacts.
But now I have good news. All missions can be started. Most of them are playable. But there are still a lot of problems.
And I decided to create this thread. May be somebody works on the same (or like this) mod and can give me useful advice ;)

A short statistic about each mission for today /22.12.2010/:
0. Training mission.
1. "Cannibal".
2. "Winter Cold". Old Strogov head for some models.
3. "Stronghold". One unsolved minor graphical problem.
4. "Hotel". Two unsolved minor graphical problems.
5. "Paycheck".
6. "Project Y". Old Strogov head for some models.
7. "8 Snipers".
8. "Die Spies!".
9. "Removal".
10. "Embassy".
11-17. MoT missions. Graphical post-effects are removed.
18. "Jagdpanther". New mission, based on "Cannibal".

I have only one unsolved graphical problem:

Also some MoT features (for example 'Heil Hitler' script) doesn't work. But it's a common problem for today.

UPD: Bug with 'red lamp' is fixed /3.12.2008/.

I have no unresolved graphical problems in this mission. But there are no winter missions in MoT, so only DtS models can be used in this mission (for
Strogov, german soldiers and civilians). Perhaps I'll find the solution how to convert these models to MoT-like form, but for now it's impossible.

UPD: Bug with the missing text at the level-end ratings is fixed /11.12.2008/.

It seems some texts are missing at level-end ratings: Alarms, Headshots and the Difficulty level (and its selected level).
What about videos of DtS? Will they also work in MoT? And with new or old Strogov's face?


PS: Is there a Lenin statue in that park? I haven't noticed it! :o

I don't know, I have removed all videos from my working folder. I'll try to test it today/tomorrow. But I'm not planning to include videos in the mod. And I have several reasons for it:
-different Strogov faces
-different movie styles
-mod size (?)

Also you can see another historical discrepancies like Stalin portraits and Levitan voice (from radio boxes). And all these on the occupied territory :)
But I'm not planning to change it, because 100% historical truth is not my aim for this mod, though I'm planning to make some changes in the soldiers/officers uniform, but only after(if) the main task will be completed.

But I want to make DtS authentic in my mod. What exactly is wrong
with the things you mention above. Im not a WW2 expert so please
help me out.

I'm not an expert too, but as I know, such objects (also as soviet flags) usually were destroyed by german forces first of all.

Forlik: If there will be no videos then I think should implement extended briefings for informations about missions, historical backgrounds and date, location infos, like in MoT. (fi: "VCH" texts and date, locations on territory maps in briefings) In the MoT the videos not so informative like in DtS, but there are a lot of informations in briefings.
What about training level? Maybe should implement Strogov's bio to it...for example to the loading screen...(there is a paper about it in the textures of DtS videos)...

...and please make your patch to our Hungarian version too! I'd appreciate it! I'd send you the "Hungarized" .shadvs and .lua files, ok?

I has the same idea! I'm planning to remove videos and to add MoT-style VCH-briefings ;) But not now, the main task for me - move missions from DtS.

I'm not planning to add training level to the mod.

If you'll provide all translations - why not? :)
But I repeat, the priority#1 for me is 17 missions on the MoT engine. I'm still having unplayable missions :(

...I did my fan-made Hungarian translation of MoT at Q2 of this year, after few week when the MoT had been released to Russia. The Hungarian patch (with video subtitles) is downloadable from 21.04.2008. :)

I will try to fix these all. But with the statue. This will be very tricky.
Perhaps I could replace the model file with other model file of stones
or something like that.

By the left collar insignia he is Obersturmfuehrer, by the right - Oberstgruppenfuehrer :)

Stalin pictures:
The ones in level "Wintercold" are easy to find, but in level "Payback", there should be two additional pictures of Stalin.
I only could find one, in the hut where "Heinrich Knut" is. See pic below.
Does anybody know where the rest is?

What caused the bug?

The data block size for this lamp's point light was 0x69 bytes. For all others - 0x51 bytes. I think somewhere in 0x18 bytes was the reason of this bug.

Perhaps I didn't investigate every room in the castle for possible graphical problems, but it seems, that all is ok. Bug with missing text at the level-end ratings still isn't fixed.

Thanks! I like this mission too. And I was very unhappy when I could not start this mission using MoT engine. But now it works! :cool:

I please to excuse me, but I don't know, as the third mission is called in the English version. In the Russian version of the game this level is called “Beautiful girl”.

It is called "Stronghold" because it plays in an castle.
But why "Beatiful Girl"? It has nothing to do with!
Location: German castle
Aim: Free captured soviet spy.

It can be code name of the mission, code name of the Russian agent. Also it can be description of the agent's "beautiful face". Only developers knows the truth :)

Yes, I think so too :)

You can see examples of using MoT filters on the first page. I think, that it's possible to add them to any DtS-mission.

Because it's an independent task. I'm planning to select (or create new) MoT-like filter for every DtS mission according to various conditions (like weather, time etc). There are no sense to make it just now, because I'm still having unplayable missions.

There are no unresolved graphical problems in this mission. But DtS models are used for some kind of persons (prisoners, overseers). Perhaps I'll find the solution how to convert these models to MoT-like form, but for now it's impossible.

I think, that you are not quite right. As I know, only one doctor is present at this level (Actor\GermanDoctor01 from Izyatie.swd). May be you was confused by the new doctor's texture? ;)

Yes and No.
Yes, I was confused because of the new skin texture.

No, because inside the script there are two IDs for doctors:
DCT1 for the doctor who is present and another DCT2 for a
not visible doctor.

Perhaps there was a second doctor planned but not implemented,
or not shown because of a bug! I dunno...

I delete mirrors from this level to make this mission loadable by MoT engine... Also there are no american soldiers and officers in MoT, so you can see pictures like these, when Strogov take their clothes.

I think, that the version No.2 is most acceptable. No.1 is not realistic, but if you add the skin of American policemen (after some correction) from MoT into this version, it will become more interesting. The third version is interesting, but somewhat fantastic. ;)

What if their clothes wouldn't be usable?! ...or maybe some British officer uniform - from Bletchley Park - would be fit to the labor map (with some graphical modifications -> symbols on uniforms and their colours)

There are some american soldiers on British level, but they don't wear uniforms... :)

I don't see any sense in this level. Usually it plays only once. And I'm sure that our community already completed this mission :) But if you so want to see it, I'll put this task to my TODO list.

There are no Volkov's agents in MoT. So, to avoid artifacts like below, DtS models are used for all actors.

As I see it's not easy to complete barbed wire task without backpack too. But I can't understand why :(


Strange but I remember somthing similar inside the scripts. The developers
left remarks at the places, where they fixed somthing inside the script
with patch 1.1. It has often to do something with the back pack.

Perhaps the solution is inside the scripts again.

It seems you are right. All Hungarians (who interested in DtS/MoT) should be already know about your patch.

I can send you the detailed instructions how to disable post-effects in PGift (UBoat) mission. And you can see the difference by yourself ;) Can you work with hex-editor?

I would not disable them, because this is a specific characteristica
of the MoT game and it defines the whole athmosphere partially...

If it's possible, It would be very complicated I think...

Perhaps you can add it to shadvs file where the config is stored.
I do not know if its saved to config file. Must try it out...

Thank you, AHO! But I am not agree. Many rewards you see only on colonel's uniform. This Colonel was a participant in the First World War and he has even rewards during that period (you can see this rewards on screenshot). You will look photos in the historical books and you will understand that I rights ;)

This is what I mean. The work is great, but too much on one uniform.
I know there were high decorated veteran offiers. But in my opinion
this do not look rather good.

In Germany there is a saying:
"Weniger ist mehr!"

This means:
"Less is (often) more!"

Yes. On the right picture you can see the highly decorated colonel ;)
By the way, mok creates a "light version" of skins for high rank officers. What do you (and others, of course) think about this colonel?

Yes, but not one ;) Two lamps on the screenshot (and two on the other side of the pool).
In general I think, that not working lamp is a normal, because some of them can be turned off (especially when there are no people in the pool). But in my opinion these lamps are too dark.

Because it's DtS-model with DtS-animations and unique texture map.
I think that current implementation of D. Meltzer is better, even with non unique face. But it's not a final version, it's only announce of the new feature. And we'll try to make the face unique ;)

First, I've decided to remove all references to Ferdinand, because in summer 1943 this tank destroyer was used in the battle of Kursk and can't was a secret for soviet intelligence. In this mission I mean another tank destroyer. Jagdpanther. It was produced from october 1943 on three factories: Braunschweig, Hannover and Potsdam. And I've decided to select one of these towns as mission place :)

PS: Could you write into the signature the address of your site? For example like AHO did.

Not a simple question ;)
MoTmod 1.0 will contain 18 missions on MoT engine without change in the game logic, so the difficulty level will be the same.
MoTmod 1.1 will contain fully reworked mission#1 (Jagdpanther): new skin for each vehicle, new uniform/weapon/behaviour logic for each soldier. Some features from MoT will be applied too, like military salute and pass zones (for example, soldier of fieldgendarmerie can't pass to the tank base, see screenshot#1 from my previous post).
For today, I can't say anything about the difficulty level in Jagdpanther, because work still in progress. But as for me, I prefer more difficult ;)

I was just thinking, is it possible to make the german flags bigger? Sometimes they look a bit stupid, especially when the are hung from a large height (like in the Polish Surprise, look at the entrance to the hall from outside). They don't look that impressive because of their small length

To play this mod you'll need the resourses (*.vfs) from both games. At least MoT should be installed.

Thanks. MoTmod 1.00 will contain skins from DtS/MoT only. Additional skins will be added later (as a patch) with the "Jagdpanther" mission.

The main idea of the mod is adaptation of DtS missions to MoT engine.
If you don't have DtS and don't want to find it - there are no sense to install mod for you (only if you want to see MoT missions without posteffects and cinematics).

The game seems to crash when you try to check in at the Hotel.

EDIT: I think I know what the problem is - AHO's tinkering with the RegistrateAnchor.lua.

MoTmod isn't compatible with AHO's mod. But you can adapt it yourself. It's not difficult because there are no new sounds and textures in version 1.00. Scripts can me merged with WinMerge. SWDs and other binaries - with any hex-editor.

When is the new Mot Mod coming out?

In "Paycheck", Wenk Bartels doesn't seem to be doing anything. I got rid of AHO's tinkering with the SchnapsPoisonTrigger.lua, but he still does nothing. Also, there are supposed to be three soldiers in front of the church at the beginning of the level, but there's only one.

It looks good so far, nice work. However, I had a problem, it crashed as soon as I passed the first level. Also, I was wondering, would it be possible or do you plan to, implement the "yellow status" guards present in MoT? The way the guards respond to a suspicious disguise in MoT just seems more realistic than in DtS. I should probably note that I played MoT first, so I'm a bit biased toward favoring the way MoT handles over the original.

I confirm the bug in the mission#05. Wenk doesn't want to drink, so it's impossible to kill him with the poison. I'll try to fix...

I have played all of the DtS missions on the MoT engine, and there are some things I want to point out:


Because Ivan Melnik in White Head is an edited model of Volkov, both Volkov himself and the traitor in Hotel (who is also an edited Volkov model) speak German among Brits. I'm currently trying to figure out how to make all three "Volkovs" speak Russian rather than German (but Melnik will still speak German to the waiter and the guard outside his room).
Because the male US scientists in Project Y are reused in Dora, they have British dialogue among Americans. Female scientists don't have this problem.
Because some of the female civilians in Embassy are reused in Shefferd, they have American dialogue among Brits. Not every woman in Embassy is affected by this problem, though.

Soldiers don't use heels in salute (legs don't move). So, no sense to add this sound.

Why Russain? Embassy's and Hotel's traitor speaks with english people, so he must use English.
WhiteHead's traitor speaks with germans, so he must use Deutsch.

As far as I remember on easier difficulty levels there are only one, but on harder there are three soldiers at church...and same thing with Meltzer's escort...

MoTmod is based on the russian DtS release 1.1 and russian MoT release 1.0.
I spent too much time to adapt DtS SWD files to MoT and I'm not planning to use SWDs from another releases.

BUT! I'm agree that three soldiers are better than one, because single soldier == enemy uniform without problem. And it's much more difficult to kill 3 soldiers silently. So, I'll try to copy additional 2 soldiers from the english SWD. But not now, it will be later.

I'm planning to use NSIS installer for the later versions of MoTmod. But it's a lowest priority for me. Now MoTmod Team works on "Jagdpanther" :)

But thanks anyway. It will be nice if you provide some info about your installer type, about vfs unpacking, etc.

Our installers are totally automated...for example the DtS HUN installer can identify the version of installed game and the place where's been installed the game...if russian then it can patch to 1.1, then unpack the vfs' and overwrite the needed files with translated ones...if english then copy the uncensored textures too...etc...I gave you links private...I hope our programmers have some free time and can help us to make an automatic MoT installer in English or in Russian of course. :)

the game crashed...

But the rest worked fine for me :)

I tested to implement German lang to your mod, but I'Ve overwritten some files so I could not acess DtS' mission.

I've been making an Enhancement Addon for MoT before forlik released his mod, and now I decided to expand it and make an Enhancement Addon for MoTMod 1.0.

Here's what I've done:


I modified all the level LUAs with louder music, as well as proof reading.
I replaced muz3_ger_loop with muz_ger_1 (Lebe wohl, du kleine Monika).
I replaced muz4_ger_loop with muz_ger_7.
I replaced muz_ger_6 with muz2_ger_loop (Panzerlied) - the former was basically a slower version of muz_ger_7 (Panzer Rollen in Afrika).
I replaced some of the German voice files with the ones from AHO's DtS Enhancement Addon.
I added the heartbeat and breathing when Strogov moves while crawling from AHO's DtS Enhancement Addon.
I replaced some of the British voice files with ones from Hitman: Contracts.
I replaced some of the American voice files with ones from Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive.
I replaced some textures with better ones courtesy of AHO.
All the DtS levels have loading screens from AHO's mod.
Made a bugfix to the ai.shadvs file - Americans use mostly British voice files when you get into a fight with them.


Other things that need to be done:


Better loading screens in MoT missions.
Need sound files from Hitman: Blood Money.
Need to figure out how to replace the numeral "8" in "Eight Snipers" with the word "Eight" in the main menu.

What means "game didn't work"? What happened when you start exe-file? Crash? I need more info to help you.
