View Full Version : Why is it assumed that the sequel would be set in Russia?

It appears generally understood that the sequel (if it exists) will be set in Russia. If that's correct, can anyone tell me the basis for that belief; has there been an announcement, or is it just plain old guess work?
I ask because it seems strange to me that a company would agree to invest so heavily in what, at the time, must have been considered a failed title. Instead of using the existing map as the basis for the introduction of new content (FW 190/Spit 5/109 F, etc) - which should be relatively inexpensive to develop and implement I'd have thought, you would have to start again almost from scratch. Not only would that require much longer lead times, it would compromise the company's ability to put the necessary resources into fixing the game's underlying problems. So, why would you do it that way when, for a fraction of the cost, you could simply invest in some new content for the existing map? I just don't get it.

There have been countless development updates concerning the sequel. Many of these have included screenshots. So it looks like a certainty that the sequel will focus on that area.
I have collected the screenshots in an album at Photobucket:

It seems logical.
- it can only succeed in the west if it is available as an iphone app.
- any theater involving the US will invoke fear of NG style litigation issues.
- in western markets there is a hard core of ex-gamers who have retired from work in order to spend their entire time criticising CoD and actively trying to prevent people from buying it.
- there is a risk the franchise may be bought out by Disney if they remain in western markets

A mix of Fw190A-2s and A-3s in I./JG51
Same as I/JG51 but II./JG51 got some Bf109Gs in Dec '42.
III./JG51 had a mix of Bf109 F-2, -4s & G-2s, and Fw190A-2s & 3s.
IV.JG51 had the odd Fw190 but mostly Bf109Fs.

Thanks, well that seem pretty conclusive I must say. I'll absolutely buy the thing but it just seems madness to me. I suspect all the work on the channel front and all that unrealized potential will go down the drain, or worse, the community will be split between those continuing to play CLoD and those playing the sequel.

CloD and the sequel will merge, (just as Pacific Fighters merged with Forgotten Battles). You will be able to fly the new planes on the CloD (Channel) map. Any improvements to gameplay and AI improvements will also apply to CloD. You will be able to chase a Bf109f over France.
We will only be able to change the maps when we get user tools to do so. these were supposed to have been released by now, but have been delayed. Hopefully we will see them around the time of release of the sequel.

AFAIK I/JG 51 was the first unit to operate the 190 on the Eastern Front in September 1942, first on the Leningrad Front, then on the Central Sector. Rest of JG 51 and JG 54 followed, but all oprated in the Northern/Central Sector, so there were no 190s on the Stalingrad front...

Yes, I absolutely take your point, the old and new will be merged however I assume that those who aren't prepared to pay for the sequel still get to play CLoD, for the simple reason that they've already paid for it. People being people I'm sure some won't be prepared to buy the sequel. My point is that by creating a 'second front' in Russia, you essentially create a whole new game because CLoD will still be available to play. Clearly most will happily move on to the new Russian theatre but some will stay put I suspect. Allowing that group to break formation is in my view a mistake. Instead of encouraging people to purchase new content by exposing them to the consequences of not buying it (eg having to fight a FW 190 or Bf 109 F in a Spit I or II) you end up creating two separate fronts and as a consequence you potentially encourage the development of two distinct communities. How is that good for anyone?

If the new version works properly and has some real depth of content, I'm sure that wont be a problem.

OK, hang on a minute. So are you actually saying that even if you don't buy the sequel, but you continue playing CLoD, you will have to contend with any new channel front aircraft that may be available via the sequel (eg the 109 F, FW 190 and Spit 5), even if you can't actually fly them. If that is what you're saying then that would be fantastic, IMO.

How could that possibly work ?
The likely scenario is going to be the same as what happened when Pacific Fighters came out.
There were no more patches for Forgotten Battles after PF was released. However if you played the "merged game" you got all the patches and improvements and fixes that came with Pacific Fighters but could still play the older FB maps and planes with the improved Pacific Fighters engine.
Basically ... if you played a merged FB/PF game you could run a server limited to the old FB maps and planes - however people with the old FB could not join you needed a merged game to join. This was actually good as you got to play the old FB but with the patched and fixed Pacific Fighters engine.
To make it clear ... the likely scenario is you probably will be able to run a "CoD maps and planes only" server from the merged game but only other merged players can join. The advantage of doing this is your players will get the advantage of all the patches and fixes of the new game but on CoD maps in a BoB setting.

We have been requesting confirmation over and over but for the looks of it, there's no one left to answer.

Pure Speculation based on some info posted by people who aren't on the development team, don't get me wrong I'm not saying that it isn't possible just that no real info has been released.
And no one left to answer? so these people who apparently are no longer working on the sequel have also had all their computers and internet connections taken away as well?
Come on, people are yet again hailing the falling of the skies based purely on rumours, patience is indeed a rare virtue.

If the Sequel is still under development, you should have no problem setting up an appointment to go to the 1C offices in Moscow so you can get a tour of the hard working BoM/BoS team's workspace.

It's only been a few weeks since the last patch came out. We've gone much, much longer than that with no signs of life before. If Maddox Games were to be shut down and it's assets taken up by 1c, I wouldn't expect it to happen until after the Christmas season.
I don't reckon it'd come to that though. If 1c did decide to write MG off, they would more likely try to onsell to someone else.

Yes, what a completely sensible suggestion, I'll burn thousands of dollars and book a return flight from Australia to Russia just to get a tour of 1C, why didn't I think of that before, it's so obvious really.
Plus I'm sure they let just any stranger into their offices, that's what normal companies do isn't it.........right?

IF they have canceled BoM aka "the sequel" that doesn't necessarily mean that they have shut down 1c:Maddox at all. I mean don't hearing a word from the guys over several weeks isn't that new, isnt it.
But just for the fun of adding conspiracy theories:

hmmmm .. <thinks> .. <stinks> ... <thinks and stinks together> ... Hows this for a business idea .. hireable robots / remote control vehicle / quad-chopper etc that someone in Oz can control, in Russia, to go visiting. You could peak through 1Cs windows, see if anyones there, who's working, who's dunking for apples in vodka vat. Talk to developers, vehicle would translate. etc etc. Put video on YouTube.
I'd pay a couple of $100 for that. Better that than us corrently being treated like mushrooms.
