oh and this will keep women away i got to an age in which i really apreciate my singularity

i usulally say to woman i have two degrees but im not willing to work more than 2-4 houtrs a day, theyre interested no more ;)

i would be a second machinist oficial in any ship

70000 a year its 6000 a motn more or less

The salary for a second mate ranges from $300-$500 a day, depending on the ship, company or union you work for.

GZ, Raaaid!

The only thing i learned from my studies is that it was better for me to do what i wanted to do. That`s why i threw it away, and went surfing.
The money came later, but it came.

The traditional male dilemma ...

- You can get a job where you get to play with lots of expensive technical toys and sometimes blow sh@t up.

- OR you can get a job where there are lots of cute women.

In the movies the exciting techo careers are also filled with hot women (as a romantic interest) who have a PhD in something or other, or are career military, or are some sort of Intelligence Agency operative - but in real life the two do not go together at all. Ask any mining engineer.

eductaing your self and making art cause you need litle so need to work litle so you have much time

Actually you don't educate yourself as you need the school for it - so it's more getting educated and not paying for it.
How do you finance your cost of living?
Those €25 are nowhere enough.

So we have

food: €15

Zigs, coffee & beer: €10

meds: how much, who pays for them?

rent/power/phone: ?

Social security/insurances: ?

I see - hard to believe you're happy with the situation.

yeah well im starting contributing society and exchanging the 4 hours of study for four hours of teching at 12 euro per hour

theres no much people who have a diploma in letters and another in science

i know latin and fluid mechanics

besides my plan is open a non totally legal academy and teach kids of few resources in groups for low prizes

youre confused

i know a guy who gets 1000 euro from the state cause he is crazy, i know other who gets 300 but lives with his family

they are not drain, they should not be deprived from oxigene

a drain fro society are those who steal

did you know the last big thieve jailed in sapin was roldan 20 years ago

jaume matas a minister was sentenced to five years in jail but he didnt enter

those are the parasits

Do remember that Red Dog was made with Mining Company finance as a public relations exercise. It's a great movie but there is a certain amount of corporate propaganda going on.

BTW ... raaid is talkingbaout becoming a ships engineer working in the engine room on a boat, not a professional engineer designing bridges, dams and machinery. They are two totally different things.

The cattle industry actually :)

Two of my sisters are married to Miners. One works underground at Mount Isa and the other in open cut coal out of Townsville.

They really appreciate the money which is awesome for two guys who basically left school at year 10 and where previously a truck driver and a farm hand on cr@p wages. They do not however have a lot of respect for the mining companies or management.

That's interesting, not even the mere mention of the word, "engineer".

A ships engineer is a pretty cool gig though. You get, "down and dirty", with the guts of the ship keeping everything in working order. It requires a wide breadth of knowledge across multiple systems. From electrical, control systems, mechanical equipment, and piping, it's all in there. It's a good deal for those that are mechanically minded, want to go farther than working on cars, and don't mind the fact that you spend most of your time on a ship.

Whenever I go on a live aboard dive cruise I always try and spend some time with the engineer down in the engine room. It's always a load of fun. Those big diesels (big for me, not compared to a super tanker or container ship!!) are pretty cool.

If I ever win the lottery I'm going to nab a 60' - 100' yacht for myself and get a captain's certificate so I can hit the open seas whenever and wherever I want!

The engineering field is coming back in the US as well. Rates plummeted for new hires and flattened out for those that managed to stay billable during the slump but they are coming back now. I even got a small raise a few months ago and now I'm doing 50 hour weeks again so life is good. That Ferrari might not be as far out in the future as I thought!

New engineering graduates are coming in at decent rates although not as good as it was a couple of years before the slump. Back then a new grad process engineer could start at $37 and hour (USD)!

Yea I looked at engineers rates for a fresh engineer and they were between 20 and 37k GBP. Some of the more experience Engineers was around 50 to 75k GBP.

Im hoping the renewable energy sector will be quite prospuros in the future so Im going with that one. Plus there must be some reward in making enrgy cleanly. :-P

It's catastrophic here in Fr. Young Eng are happy if they can start at 2500$ net per month. Passing 4500$ it become really difficult to get an increase.

they even employ tons of unpaid students to lower dev cost giving them (very boring) design project, even on a CAD stations with a full access to the design Model ! (When I started myself on CATIA V4 we had numerous security check implemented)

And then they say to the share holders that they are fighting hard to keep the program on track, budget and schedule. BS! Everybody know since Ford that attention is a function of the worker's motivation. And the lack of attention cost a lot at this level of responsibility. A very basic rule of management dump down the flush just to cut cost even more when we are already eating our own tail like a snake.

There is nothing good that way.

But still engineering is a rewarding job. Hold on !
