BACKGROUND:
Many innovative stategies were used to defend allied airfields during WW2, Some more effective than others. In addition to AA batteries, Kenley & Biggin Hill airfields used a parachute & cable (PAC) system.

PAC consisted of a small rocket trailing a steel cable, which shot vertically 300-400ft into the air and then descended on parachute. The rockets were grouped in batteries of nine, to be launched simultaneously in a curtain pattern. The idea was that of creating a web of steel cables across the path of a low-flying aircraft, causing it to catch the wires and stall to the ground.

The parachute had a dual function. Once the rocket burned out, the canopy slowed the cable’s fall, allowing the “curtain” to stay up in the air for a longer time. Secondly, if the cable caught a bomber’s wing, the added drag from the parachute was hoped to be sufficient to foul its flight. There was also a smaller parachute at the lower end of the cable designed to balance the drag of the first one and thus prevent the cable from it from sliding off the wing of the aircraft. Later versions had an additional explosive charge hung at the bottom of the cable, intended to detonate on contact with the aircraft.

The PAC system was effective deployed to defend Kenly airfield on 18th August 1940 ("the hardest day"), downing 2 of 9 low flying Do17s over the airfield.

ARCHIVE CONTENTS:
1. PAC_Kenley.mis ... sub-mission file to be launched from your main mission.
2. PAC_Kenley.cs ... PAC script file
3. PAC_Kenley1.mis, PAC_Kenley2,mis, PAC_Kenley3.mis ... PAC units at Kenley airfield

HOW TO USE:
1. Call the PAC_Kenley.mis sub-mission from inside your your main mission file by copying this code into your OnBattleStarted event. Change the path to the mission as required.

2. Change the path to the PAC sub-missions (in the PAC_Kenley.cs file) as required.

HOW IT WORKS:
The script regularly checks for low flying enemy aircraft over Kenley airfield. If an enemy aircraft is detected, a PAC unit will fire it's cables into the air hoping to foul the enemy aircraft.

PAC unit operation is simulated by launching 1 of 3 sub-missions. The sub-mission contains a barrage balloon, thus the barrage ballon & cable might appear suddenly in front of the enemy aircraft. The balloon is wound in slowly simulating the falling parachute. Allied pilots recieve a warning message that PAC's are deployed at Kenley so they can look for & avoid any cables.

Awesome! Except, you can fly through the cables... Shame you could not have some how fixed a chute instead of a balloon.

I really think this should be in the game, as well as AA MG's.
