Never forget this is only a BETA or ALFA patch it is not perfect but a game shall never be perfect. I must say many things are better now not easy, not more complicated but different, better. I tried this patch now for two days and with the exception of London low altitude flying is smoother, with less stutter. I like this patch and I hope this could help to be constructive.
Thanks to the dev. team for this great work even if it is not finished.

I agree. In 2 days 1 launcher crash. FPS wise nothing changed for me. BUT I really hope that this stability/performanceincrease is NOT bought by just deactivating features like plane weathering and other features like small caliber damagetextures PERMANENT?! Maybe Blacksix could respond here and destroy my fears and tell us that we will get all the dectivated features back with the next beta or final version of the patch?

No, it's an alpha patch for a beta patch for a beta version of a new graphics engine for a beta game.:)

Nobody is disputing the fact it's a alpha/beta patch or whatever. Those who are having problems are just telling the Devs it's failed for whatever reason. People may call that moaning or whatever else they like, but without this feedback there will be no results. People are obviously going to be disappointed because this alpha/beta has been built up so much to be the patch that finally makes the game playable.

There...I fixed it for ya so you can understand why people are upset.

All in all I would agree with the OP.
I actually have no increase in FPS at all but I can see that the game runs smoother and stutters much less.
We are hopefully seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I gained about 2 FPS for lower image quality.
Not much to like about it here, really.

I think that what this patch is most doing its crush shuttering than increase the FPS.
The CPU optimization of the graphic engine and the new textures managing brings smooth game-play at high and medium altitude, at low altitude there still work to do with grass and trees.
Overall there is a progress to the smooth game-play.
The most annoying issue in this patch is the textures manager failing to show high textures under some circumstances, it needs be improved.
image quality (blurry, blocky) is part of the new rendering process, (mapping, filtering ...)
i'am more worried about the "old bugs" soon we will see if the rework was deep enough.

More correctly a problem with it :
• Texture cache failing to draw higher-res textures on close-up objects with lower settings on below-recommended video cards.
This is the reason behind the low quality textures, a issue between the new textures management and the texture cache.
Everything else is conspiracy theories. ;)
mapping includes cache management yeah, but there is more than than just the low res texture problem, sadly the drivers are still not very ok with the DX code and this is not new.

I've got slightly smoother frame rates for a 10% drop in overall FPS. Landscape looks decidedly like something on Nintendo64 however. It's odd, maybe it's the colour palette or the new blurry look. Can't put my finger on it.
Never mind. Blacksix said they'd have it all fixed up in a couple of days right?

Yup, that what he said. "Couple of days for this, couple of days for that yadiyadiyadi yakidi-yak!"

Never forget this is only a BETA or ALFA patch
we don't forget, but... what is the difference between the beta and the current version? except the number at the bottom corner?
the patch should fixe CTD, it's not fixed... and all the little bug like stuka break wheel that still does not work...
in my opinion the dev team is too small... and they wait too long time for asking the community to test beta version... we should have periodically alpha patch for helping the dev to test theire work and for being more reactively that 6 month.
I am sad about the dev.. we are other game for waiting... we can easily switch... but they only have this game...
Luthier, you make "tunnel effect" with your project...
chose among your mature or experienced community for more frequent alpha test and strengthen gradually and not block by block to easily return back to

Here are some thoughts on the new patch thus far...(from a Ju88 pilot's perspective)
Well for me the ctd with the twin engine bombers is much less then prepatch, infact, of the five hours I have been able to test on the ATAG server with Ju88, no ctd's were had and thats while....drum roll please...flying in formation :grin::grin::grin: I'll give that 4 grins! thanks devs!
When I pan left/right with tir5 while parked at tramcourt the buildings and fauna appear a bit smoother:grin:
With the new nvidia beta drivers fxaa works with little performance cost:grin::grin:
Formation flying was a huge issue that if now fixed gives alot of hope for big bomber formations.

I have to agree a bit here.. personally it runs the same for me..i had 1 ctd yesterday after about 2 hours of play so cant comment any further on the issue...didnt see any ghost dots which was my main gripe..
getting the occasional 1 sec freeze but it was on ATAG with around 30ish players and skins were on so im guessing that may have something to do with it
keep in mind there is 22 persons working on cod/bom ... much less than on angry birds

Guys, if you read the patch notes the purpose of this alpha-release is not to make our flying more comfortable or enjoyable but to collect crash-logs and crash-dump files. CTDs of different nature (and specific to user hardware) are hunted and fixed one-by-one as goes from naryv's comment @sukhoi.ru I refer to here http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=31835
They reworked the core of the engine (multi-threading, etc.) and only now they will start fixing bugs with our feedback. Disappointing ATM but still very promising.

The single big improvement for me is with CTD's. I have not had one post patch. Although that is a big step forward the trade off seems to be lower overall graphical quality. The landscape in particular looks like its being viewed through net curtains. I'm not going to touch off a bomb here but compared to another sim I fly it looks awful.
Performance wise I am not seeing anything like the massive increases suggested pre-patch by the devs (in fact its so marginal its neither here nor there) and in terms of fluidity it worked better for me before. I will run it to test for the couple of days but it isn't that much fun due to the poor AI.
Sorry, but if this was supposed to be the 'wow' moment it just wasn't. I think they got put in a corner and had to release something, and something just isn't that great. Overall I think it is buggy, clunky and way off the pace in comparison to its competitors. That is not a rant, just my own personal opinion

Yes, this was specifically tested and addressed as naryv mentioned @sukhoi.ru http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=31835
Please send more crashdumps and logs to let more issues be solved soon. Post annoying bugs at bugtracker and vote for them.

Exactly my thoughts, it's a testing patch and nothing else. Treating it as finished gameplay material is only setting oneself up for disappointment.

Well, in all fairness moaning and feedback are very different. For example...
Feedback: "Tried the new patch today. I encountered such and such issue when doing this and that thing, here's a screenshot/crash logs/ how to reproduce the bug, here's my PC specs/driver settings and here's my in-game detail settings."
Moaning: "Oh my god, this is worse than before, i'm getting less FPS now, this patch is a joke!"
:-P

This last sentence is not true it is not worse it is simply not better. I never have any crash of my system or of the launcher or maybe a long time ago before the first patch.
I think this patch is made to correct the most obvious errors with some planes modeling errors and for making this game more afordable to mid range PC's. Do not forget also this is not the final version of the patch.
Give the DEV. team some time to make all this work. It is not a easy task. We are far from the 320x200 pixels from 1989 "Their finest hour" from "Lucasfilm".
