Hey guys, going to buy my new gaming pc soon, but I'm stuck as to what card to get for the graphics.. I was looking at the ATI Radeon H6850 or 6870 :)

Yes, the low price of both right now plus the small price difference makes the 6870 the best choice IMO. I've had the 6850, runs CloD well at high settings, after the patch both should run the game without any problems.

I have the one in sig and I maxed out all the settings, with fps always around 30-50. The 3 gB are used at 80-90% by CloD.
BTW, do the ATI cards till show the blue lines ?

That problem has been narrowed down to the 69xx cards only, no other AMD cards are affected and yes, I do believe it's still there. Luthier said almost a year ago that it was a driver problem so who knows if it will ever be fixed.

S!

AMD, at least 7900-series, do not have the stripes. I use the 12.4 drivers(with OpenCL 1.2). Works a treat.

I feel the 6800 series was a stop gap card. The 6870 was not near as good as the old workhorse 5870.

The 6900 series is better but has the blue line problem. From the pictures I have seen it is not a show stopper.

I thought they had fixed the problem with one of the patches and then it reappeared with another patch. So I am not sure it is a driver problem. With all the people filling out forms to Amd I think they are at least aware of the problem even if our niche is too small to worry about.

Maybe the 7800 series or the expensive 7900 series.

At the moment the more video memory the better. That may change when the new patch arrives.Nvidia has a 4 gig GTX 680 coming.

Cool, was looking at HD6950 but just far too expensive for me.. are the prices likely to change soon?

Was also looking at getting a nice meaty rig, AMD Bulldozer 4.20GHz Quad Core System.. wheres the best place to get beafy rigs online in the UK? I was looking at Overclockers:cool:

I usually dont give advices about hardware, some people tend to blame you for his mistakes, but buy a buldozer to play games is just wrong, and if they are simulators is even worse.

Also if you want a advice about get graphics card for a game you should say at what resolution you will play with it.

- Graphics card :

Forget get the 6xxx series, as someone said there drivers problems (blue lines) and we dont know if they will be fixed.

Get something with 2-3GB, nVidia or ATI, in simulators you will have handle with big textures and a lot of objects, this is not a crappy console port.

If you are not over more of a "HD" resolution the HD7950 3Gb is a good choice, you can find a reference model for around 350€, enough to maxed out CLoD.

- CPU :

Forget Bulldozer, its slow in single thread performance hence slow in games !!

So ... looking at Intel the 2500k is a very nice option, with nice overclock potential.

But the new Ivy bridges are just around the corner, I think in April, so my advice is wait a bit, they will be faster, with better overclock and more energy efficient at the same price of what is now in the market.

I wouldn't recommended Bulldozer for gaming, and I'm a AMD fan. :|

The Intel 2500k is probably the best value for your money gaming CPU right now.

That's what a lot of people say, but personally I've never had ANY problems with AMD hardware or their drivers (Currently using Catalyst 12.1) I've had my current AMD based PC for about 2 years, never had any problems.

But my past experience with Nvidia cards and drivers has not be pleasant to say the least.

But right now i hear, its AMD's new desktop CPUs that have problems.
From what I hear on hardware sites, their new cards preform very well.

I have a mid range card a MSI GTX 560 TI and am always surprised at how well it meshes with this sim. It was $300 on Ebay. I don't think I'll bother buying another since the patch will be coming out and I don't see why I should anyway.

The new Nvidia card , 680 Kepler is around $650. It's next generation stuff and easily the fastest card ever made.

Maybe I should wait for patch to buy? I like the idea of the 6960 but just a touch too expensive

How about eVGA GeForce GTX550 Ti Graphics card - 2 GB

I have an EVGA GTX550 Ti 1GB DDR5 (factory overclocked) and it runs CloD just fine at medium-high settings @ 1366x768 resolution.
