Sadly, 'Professor Britannica' is retiring, or at least, going out of print: http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/03/13/after-244-years-encyclopaedia-britannica-stops-the-presses/?hp.

Actually, on some subjects, independent research has suggested that Wikipedia is more reliable than conventional encyclopaedias - though it has its fair share of crap too.

And on certain topics it has some glaring omissions, as was pointed out (quite correctly) to me recently.
Thanks to 5./JG27.Farber for making me stop and consider it's contents before using it as a reference (in haste!).

I dunno if you guys ever created a Wikipedia page, but normally you need to give a reference from a reputable source (e.g. a book on the topic), Wikipedia is just an easier way to gather information available on a topic and make them into an easily accessible page. One thing that you need to be careful about though is whether the topic of the specific page is covered in all its spectrum or some aspects are (deliberately or not) omitted from the page.

Well i do create Wikipedia Articels:

it's sometimes pretty hard work to get all the sources together.
Nevertheless it's a good reason to buy books. ;)

Sometimes when i don't have the proper sources i call some friends which i know they have the proper sources and sometimes i go to libraries and look for sources.

Many people write their own Wikipedia articles about themselves. Very entertaining.

Most of this articles (at least in the German wikipedia) are very fast deleted but as you said sometimes very very entertaining.
