i watched the whole first series.
it was OK. critic style a 3 /5.
it had good actors, interesting scenes and well, zombies, well done zombies.
on the downside, the plot which is predictable from the episode before. it really ruins the suspense, when you kind of guess from the beginning which characters are there to die, and wish ones will leave to fight another day.
I didn't get into the second series, because the last 2 episodes of the first serious were horrible IMO. they seriously ruined the story with all that sci-fi thingy, and a poor explanation of what happened.

Let's see... A deadly virus has broken out and taken the world by storm. Everyone who gets infected turns into an animated rotting corpse with a thirst for human blood. They bite the living to "infect" them and make them zombies. The only way to kill them is to blow their head off. So our heroes strap up with an arsenal of guns, run around and shoot zombies...
Nah, count me out lol. This plot line was, imho, lame from day one. But now it's so cliche that I think it's not even fit for a film school project. This same exact plot has been made into hundreds of movies and video games, none of which are very good. And lately, they've started reusing it more and MORE! Why? No idea... It's often modified a bit, like maybe it's not a virus but something to do with aliens or black magic. But it's the same ol', same ol' bs. ;)
AMC needs to stick to good series like "Breaking Bad"!

Never been into Zombie movies ( or the comics either for that matter) before until I saw 'The Walking Dead'.
Now I'm waiting week to week to see it. One thing, they don't mind killing off thier core characters! Not many of them left.
The last show of the season should be a bit special. We get to see more walkers for a change!
I'ld rate it 5 out 5 smelly animated corpes any day!

I have been loving this show from day one, its not your stereo typical zombie fest for sure. I personally have never been that into Zombie movies, but this has such a deeper layer than just head shots on the undead.
I have started reading the graphic novels, while different are even better than the show.
I am excited for Sunday as well, except for the fact that I will have to wait till next season to see it again.

Been reading the comic series since it began in 2003. They strayed from the comic book storyline. I had a hard time getting into the characters because of preconceived notions. I see the two as seperate now and enjoy them both. It's more about human survival than zombies as the story unfolds. People are worse enemies than zombies. One thing that's pretty close to the comic is that none of the core characters are spared. People get killed off left and right and that keeps the show unpredictable. Dale and Sophia were suposed to die much later in the storyline and they kept Shane around a lot longer than in the comic. Also, Ricks son, Carl, killed Shane as a normal, non zombie, human being. Another thing that's not clear on the show is how/why people turn zombie. In the comic it's shown that everyone who dies, zombie bitten or not, returns from the dead unless decapitated or shot in the head. I recommend everyone who likes the show to read the comic also.

According to the writer (who is also the creator of the comic/book) he didnt want to follow the books that close as everyone would know what to expect and where. He said if they die in the book they will amost certianly die in the show, but when and how is any ones guess. They are trying to keep it fresh so no one can predict what will happen next.

i dont want to spoil it, but overall, i think the scientific explanation given in the last 2 episodes (m ireally not sure if it was just in the last one tough) by that cliche "desperate scientis" characther, to be a joke, and nothing new / interesting at all.
either a story has a good mood and its nice to see for the killing, and doesnt try to come up with science to justify all things, or it simply as to be coherent (as in flashforward, who was completely impossible, yet coherent).
but this is my opinion, most of my friends didnt care for it, and kept on watching.

Avast, here be spoilers! :P
I don't mind though, me and the missus watch this show almost religiously. Unfortunately she can't wait most of the time and reads as many spoilers as possible and gets too excited not to tell me, so I know everything that happens the week before it happens. The worst thing is, we get the episodes on Monday over here (they're on on a Sunday in the states), and whenever I come home on a Monday she's got a massive grin on her face, and all I have to do is say 'go on then' and I get an indepth desciption of the plot of this weeks episode before we've even seen it.
I really love the show though. Like people have said, the human element in it is great. It's nice that they don't all go around with ridiculous machineguns and rocket launchers that they 'found' (must have been one hell of a hunting store), although they never seem to run low on food or ammo. And from what the missus says, they have strayed from the comics, but it's a bit better for it I think, since it seems that they've made it much more believable than the comics sounded to me (based on the wikipedia summaries anyway :D). It'll be interesting to see how they run series 3 though, since with all the deaths this season they're going to have to add new characters if they're going to keep the body count up, or unless the next series is the last.

Ahhhhhh, I get it. We were thinking of different episodes. To me, the last episode of season 1 is the barn finale. That may not be technically correct though.
I do dislike the entire "living dead" concept myself". I prefer the "28 Days Later" or "I am Legend" concept where the "zombies" are simply diseased people. Dead people returning to life is kind of ridiculous, but, it is standard in the genre. I particularly hated the crawling torso in the beginning. Unless you go with the supernatural, muscle movement requires metabolism and that does not occur with the standard zombie formula.
Still, I can get over it as the rest of the show is interesting enough for me. I will read the graphic novel after the end of the show.

The barn scene is the end of season 2 part 1 (it was split in to two parts).
I agree with you on the 28 Days Later bit though, that's really the only zombie film I've watched that's scared me in some respect because of how believable (and potentially real) it was. That, and the zombies could run, making them more of a threat than an 'oh no now I have to walk reasonably quickly in the other direction' inconvenience. The Walking Dead kind of zombies are really only a threat if you're standing still. Anyway, a bit of a spoiler (I'll put it in small text so people who don't want to see it/haven't figured it out don't accidently read it):
WARNING! HERE BE SPOILERS!!!
The whole point of the walking dead is that it is a virus. Everyone has it, which is why it's the 'walking dead', since the ones left alive are the walking dead, not the zombies themselves. That's apparently (according to 'experts' :P although I think it's that way in the comic) what Jenner tells Rick at the end of series 1. The whole point of the virus is that it makes you 're-animate' after you die, which is why Shane turned when he hadn't been bitten, there were the zombie cops without bites at the school and there was the zombie hanging from the tree. I suppose it's kind of realistic in that sense, in that it is a virus, but still not really.
At least, that's what the missus tells me anyway, based on the comics plus what a few people who have spent a lot of time thinking about these things have figured out.
EDIT: Ok, text not as small as I hoped it'd be.

Just saw the series finale last night. I have to say it was very good, but without giving too much away, I was a bit disapointed in the new character they introduced. I knew them from the comics and I can't really see them fitting in to the show as they're a bit too 'comic-booky' and the show seems to be based more around (relative) realism. We'll have to see how they play it in the next season though. Can't wait!

Meh...
I hate so much Rick's family: Lori is one of the most stupid wife/mother I've ever seen and their child needs to be beaten every day since he's so naughty.
It's sad that my favourite character is gone... :-(
Anyway I agree that this kind of zombies are really "stupid" NOW... In the first episode, when they smelled the horse Rick was riding I remember that they were running very fast.
Now they kill these monsters so easily that I ask what kind of soldiers were in Atlanta. :-|
Still the Sophia/barn episode is the best one IMO.

I was pretty disappointed with the final battle. I can't imagine who would possibly think Herschell's static fusillade with his magic shotgun of infinite ammo was even the least bit exciting.
Also, when did everyone become Delta Force/Spetznaz level snipers?
And what's up with Jimmy's death? I wonder if they simply forgot to include him in next season's scripts and didn't realize it until the actor asked when he would be receiving them! They were then forced to write up his end scene the day of filming.
Finally, would it hurt anything to add a little recoil?!?!?!?! I gave them a break when Rick shot the fat dude in the bar because it was an interior scene. But out in the open??? Come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And now, for the big one.....
JUST RUN THE F$%K#$S OVER WITH THE TRUCKS!!!!! No need to be hauling a$$ and break the radiator (or more importantly, the A/C condenser). Just us one vehicle as the "bait" and line up the walkers following it down the road. Then simply cruise up slowly from behind with the RV and grind 'em up.
I'll shut-up now.

I totally agree with all of that. Looking back on it the series finale was totally underwhelming for me (that's only my opinion though, the missus loved it except for the character introduction issue I mentioned earlier)
The only thing I'd disagree with though is about running them over. You'd have to hit them with enough speed to cause serious trauma to their heads. I'm not even sure those old pieces of junk could get up to that kind of speed :P But even if they could, you wouldn't be and to kill many zombies before you totalled the car and smashed the windscreen turning you into a sort of zombie-buffet :D
EDIT: About Jimmy though, how did they even get in the RV? Did he leave the door open, did they open it, or did they come in through the windows or something? It all happened very fast so I didn't really get what had happened fully.

You don't kill 'em with the impact. You just knock 'em over with the impact and then grind 'em up with the tires. Keep up just a little bit of momentum and don't try and take too many on at a time and you keep the risk of getting stuck to a minimum.

The zombies opened the side door and, for some ridiculous reason, Jimmy had gotten out of the driver's seat and was standing by the door. I guess you could say that he was preparing for Rick and Carl to enter that way and that the zombies simply lucked out and pulled the handle the right way, BUT, the obvious choice is to simply drive away with them safely on the roof!!!!

That's what I'd assumed he'd do, especially as we've seen in earlier episodes (one of the early ones this series when Andrea was stuck in the RV on her own and Dale dropped a screwdriver or something in to her) that there's a skylight on the top of the RV that they could have dropped in through and been 'safely' (as safe as Jimmy was :P ) inside the RV. I assumed that was the plan, and got really confused when Jimmy got out of his seat.

Well, being in a farming district, I'd go for a closed cab tractors (air-conditioned comfort and entertainment system- soft I know) and set of disk ploughs (harrows). More than enough!
You need to remember that that the walkers aren't exactly trying to get out of the way and are walking straight at them reasonably slowly. Most shots are at close range, silhouetted by the fire of the barn. It would be almost perfect shooting conditions. Though why they’d stick with 9mm in those conditions when you could get by with a nice and accurate 22RL auto pistol with high capacity mags and practically no recoil is beyond me. Just being able to carry a thousand or so rounds of ammo would make it worth it. Low noise too!
Jimmy died because he deserved to die, He'd done bugger all in the series, letting others take all the risks and sitting back safe at the farm. I can't remember him actually speaking more than one or two words in total.
Man these guy don’t deserver to survive the ZA! ;)
