What a great way to preserve the whole tree...

Only for the small ones. They got a poor survival rate too.
We tried this 25years* ago with a 20-25ft spruce. Poor thing died after ~7month.

Clearly they dont have boulders and rocks in that area... It wouldn't work in my yard for sure. We got lumps the size of wheel barrels beneath the sods :-D

I could see that either pushing them to the side or bringing them up with it for the most part.

Because your chopping off the biggest part of their roots - maybe? ;)

Frankly for such a small one : two friends a shovel and a pack of beer would do the trick.

No need to put mud all your backyard with such a sherman.
