Ok got this idea to change conf.ini file to use OpenGl libraries...just in documents folder 1CSoftClub
...
StencilBits=8
DrawIfNotFocused=0
SaveAspect=0
Render=Opengl32.dll
width=1400
height=1050
....
Just try and tel me can You see the diffrience?
And dont forget to turn on Anti Aliasing To the max You can :)

I tried it and it looked worse. AA did not work either. I also tried changing MSAA=0 in the config and that was a fail too. AA and AF are just porked n this sim.

The old IL-2 was made and optimized for OpenGL, Cliffs of Dover was made and (slightly) optimized for DirectX.
Besides, DirectX is the better one of the two.

well i beg to differ there on that, opengl has better depth in 3d than does Direct X

What?
OpenGL is just an API, just like DirectX. All it does is allows a developer to write graphics code for one library, instead of tons for each graphics card. IT, in no way, affects the "depth" of an image.
Also I tried this out and it works. However, no AA and quite a bit of corrupt graphics, but ATIs always had **** for opengl drivers. The mirror in the spit seems to work perfectly though.

+1.
Crazy graphics engine. As we say in Brazil:

30% of FPS hit on my system. AA works at some extend, no more jaggies at close distance except for wires. I tried on the Spitfire default track (not in a real mission) and the Spit mirror doesn't work on the track. The ATI horizon bug seem to not occur using OpenGL.

This makes me wonder if theres a way to force DX9 mode instead of DX10?
Edit: tried changing the value to D3D9 and it worked (verified via EVGA precision that it was indeed in DX9 mode)

Sure it does... change the render to Render=D3D9_0

On my system all it does is revert to DX9 ( at least thats the mode EVGA precision says its running in)
Don't think this works.

errrr .... unless I've missed something here, CloD shouldn't work using OpenGL at all. It was originally based on DX only. Unless they've got legacy code from IL-1946 in there.

One thing for sure.. the legacy DX11 code is in CoD. That is to say you can set it to D3D11_0 and it will run the DX11 'feature levels'.. But It is not recomended! 1C stated that at the time of release, MS had some issues with the DX11 feature levels, thus 1C downgraded the featue levels to DX10.. Which is doable since the DX11 API supports DX9 threw DX11 feature levels

Its a fresh engine written for D3D so it probably works via a OGL wrapper somehow which inevitably is much slower.

I believe this is that simple.

Tzing tzing tzing!!! We got the winner! :D (that would explain why "the cliffs" itself are just a objects and not integral part of the terrain)

I don't see any "calling" OGL libraries only DX

What's puzzling me is they're still seeing graphics on the screen after changing the config setting to OpenGL

Simple: CloD reverts to Dx9 or Dx10.
No big deal.

That would have been my guess too, probably using DX9 instead of DX10, which might explain why some people get an increase in performance, whilst others don´t.

CloD reverts to Dx9 or Dx10.
Correct!
You can also Set Render=BungaBunga, it has no effect!
Each setting which are not DX9_0/1 or DX10_0 /1 are ignored and the lowest common settings are used and this is DX9.

WHAT!!! no bungabunga api support? thats just typical....another broken promise!!
