Hi guys, Im on the edge whether or not I should buy this game.... I didnt want to make a new thread so I hope someone replys. My biggest concern is how long this game is going to be supported? Are they gonna release expansion packs or are they gonna just release a new full priced sequal sometime soon?

Hi everyone! Im a complete noob at COD as I havent bought the game yet. The one thing stopping me is I dont want to spend 50 bucks on a game that wont be supported for awhile. So can someone aswer these questions real quick. First off, Are the developers planning on releasing expansions with new theatres of war, or are they gonna just develope a whole new $50 game? Thats my biggest concern. Iv played IL2 1946 for awhile now and I want something a little more immersive, so this game looks perfect. Last worry I have is my computer is pretty weak at the moment, so do u think this will play at least on low settings? I play on a 720P T.V so I play on low resolutions.
CPU: AMD 955 3.2G
RAM:4G
GPU: 9800GT (weakest part!)

Expansion / Standalone planned .. set in moscow.. All peices of the new Il2 franchise should fit together, and will be continued to be patched for some time :)

I only play on a triple 2.3 core, 4GB ram and Radeon HD 4860 i cooler, doesn't run great but that is rumoured to change with upcoming performance tweaks.

Yes, go ahead and buy it. There are some problems at the moment which are slowly being addressed. The min specs that were/are quoted are too low to get the best out of the sim at the moment but things are improving. Patches are being made to improve CoD and there is rumored a sequel to follow which will merge with Cod just as FB, AEP and PF have done with the original Il2 Sturmovik. Sometimes I moan about the current release mainly through frustration but I still think this is the best flight sim bar none. You will need a decent graphics card with at least 1gig of card memory and min 4 gig of system memory. Don't know what system you have but have a look at what some of the senior members on these forums are using and you will get a good idea as to what you will need.

Just noticed some of your specs in an ealier post, that graphics card will probabley handle it with all settings on low. Before you jump into another card check your power supply specs. Most of the higher performing modern cards have quite high power requirements, you might find your PS needs an upgrade as well.

Personally i would wait. There is no guarantee of how this patch will turn out and of course the next add on.
You ought to also work out the costs of any computer upgrade if you need it.
There's no rush,if they support it then you can get it in the future.

Honestly, I would wait until the next patch comes out, or until the next expansion/sequel comes out. Right now the game is a mess.

Thanks for the replys everyone. Glad to know my system will at least run it. Also thats great news that expansions/sequals will just merge like 1946 did. I understand the problems with the game right now, but I dont mind sticking it out and enjoying what does work. So im sold, im gonna look around for the best prices and get it. I look forward to a new game and new community. :)

I'd say go for it too SDDrew.

I'm still running XP with only 2GB of memory on an i7 920 with an old GeForce GTS 250 card. I fully accept that my system isn't up to running everything maxed out but even with lots turned to Low I'm having a ball.

No stutters for me and only the occasional crash which I think will be addressed in an upcoming patch. Personally I have enough fun just flying cross country and practicing takeoffs, landings and high speed climbs etc. Also navigating the old fashioned way without the map icon is hugely rewarding.

I just love this game, warts and all and can see it going from strength to strength. Believe me, it is worth it.

I will upgrade my graphics card and operating system when the new generation hit the shelves and lower the price of the current high end cards. Until then I'm very content with what I've got and the planned graphics update patch might even allow me to increase my settings a little which will be a bonus.

If I had a do-over I'd wait.

There is a lot that needs fixing and it remains to be seen if you will have to buy the add-on to get the fixes . It is a shame because it could have been brilliant. Maybe it will be one day but its not right now.

Good descision. For the money this sim is available for now, there is not a lot you can do wrong with getting it, even if development were to stop right now.

I wouldn't bother buying this version until the expansion comes out and is proven to run well and finished.

The sim needs work but the developer has a history of supporting their products and have plans for free patches and paid addons for a series that will cover most major theaters of WW2 aircombat. If your an aircombat flight simmer then I highly recommend supporting the sim now rather than later. The development could fail tomorrow, but for the price of cheap night out you could be investing in years of air combat sim enjoyment.

If money is tight, don't go!
If you can get it for $9.99 its a keeper.
The game have its issues and if you are used to the finetuned interface of IL-2 1946 (it might look old but it is like an iPhone = intuitive ;)) I would wait for the next patch or the sequel.
You should also make sure your GPU are up to specs. A tiny GPU like my nVidia GTX260 will strain your relationship with the game.

The learning curve in COD is steep and the additional problems of the bugs might be the famous last drop (reason) which gets it shelved unnessesarily.

I'm running a GTS 250 and still get a lot of enjoyment out of the product.
I think the problem is unrealistic expectations with regards to screen resolution (I run at 1280x768) and detail settings (I use high for objects and effects, medium for landscape and low for the rest). In this way I can still enjoy great looking airplanes, fluid flight models and air combat while waiting for further optimisations and for my budget to catch up with the technology!

If money is tight, don't go!
Agreed 100%

On that note, this goes out to all.. If a $50 dollar game is something you have to factor into your budget.. Than chances are your hobby (PC flight sims) is a hobby you can not afford at this time. I would recomend another hobby like checkers or chess (the real hands on version, not the PC game version). It too will give you hundreds of hours of entertainment for a small investment (less than $50) and you don't need a $1,500 dollar PC to play it.

How much does it cost to have fun?

$25 for the Movies @ 1.5 hours

$50 to go to a fair @ 4 hours

$20 for a pizza @ .5 hours

$35 for a book @ varies

$25 for IL2 COD @ 500 hours to date

Seriously though, most entertainment is purchased without the knowledge of just how much fun you might get out of it.

However, if you ask yourself...

1) Do I love ww2 aviation?

2) Do I love tactics and strategy?

3) Do I love simulating air battles against others who also love 1, and 2?

4) Do I love competition and comradery?

Chances are that if you already have an interest in combat flight sims, the cost is irrelevant.

354 hours at £29.99, is £0.11 Pence per HOUR!

...and the price just keeps going down!

Priceless! :-P

I appreciate all the different opinions, but iv made my decesion. Im definatly buying the game. Iv looked around and everywhere iv seen is still selling it for $50, I dont mind though. Im a private pilot in real life, so im sure the learning curve wont be to hard for me, also iv played flight sims for a few years now. I have no problems playing on low settings with low resolutions too, so im more than happy to support this company and hopefully they can make a great game in the end. If I dont support this game now, who's gonna make a new/better one? See u in the air soon enough!

Good call,
This game had been on sale for 30$ even $9 bucks!
I missed the 9$ sale but at least i got it when it was at a discount at 30$

Always fun on ATAG server, But there are many rooms starting up Spits vs 109's ect.. the player base grows every month and with updates on the way many are seeing a brighter day ahead for Clod.

I spend 50 bucks on a night out. Spending 50 bucks on Cliffs of Dover has saved me LOTS of money. Plus made the streets much safer since I am not out driving. :)

No Robtek...Furbs has expressed an opinion, just as you have...(it is 'philosophy' btw)

And I happen to agree with Furbs.

I'd say buy this game if you have the machine to play it (ideally Windows 7 64bit, lots of memory), and intent to do all your flying online, and have the time and patience to devote to getting to know servers/squadrons etc.

If you want a Battle of Britain or any kind of standalone game, forget it for quite some time. And be prepared to buy the sequel to possibly obtain at least some of those features that were supposed to be included in the initial release.

Much depends on how tolerant you are, and how much you think you are securing or funding the future of this game.

Me, I like a table wth 4 legs from the outset (or at least 3). Not two, and needing to buy another table to get the rest.

Fair enough, but even with all the shortcomings, I still think this sim is bl**dy amazing and will only get better with time. Lots of patience is required for sure but I can see this shaping up to be a fantastic product in the quite near future.

I don't know any other sim that gives me the feeling of "being there" like CloD does. Heck, I get goose bumps every time I throttle up.

Not all critics think it is dead. Equally, not all fans think they have to suddenly rush to battle-stations every time someone dares give a less-than-stellar opinion. It adds up to a shrill, scared over-reaction...

A lot of the noise, here and on the other main forum, is simply the constant background static of discontent, and the call-to-arms surrounding the furure over a botched release, and slow patching. At which point the fans come rushing like firemen down the pole scared that the place is burning down....

And quite a chunk of the noise is also how to improve what's there, workarounds for major and minor probjems, and 'wish' and Feedback threads.

Is that a ringing endorsement?

It's a shame there isn't much talk oabout the standalone campaign, the modelling of a BoB, or the talk about the dynamic campaign and weather.

That may well be because they (still) are not there.

The original point - is it worth buying? Well, that varies according to your point of view.

Truthful, accurate and I agree 100%

It may have the potential to be one of the great sims, but it certainly is not even close right now. I am beginning to think this will take years to get even four legs let alone stain and varnish. I will wait for that and buy a sequel if they do fix it. However, I will not buy another product to get those legs. That would show a blatant disregard for customers and would also be unethical.

That kind of practice would make many turn their backs on this sim, which would be a terrible shame, and is why I do not think it will happen, So far 1C has been committed to fixing this, its just seems that it is going to take a long long time.
