Dear friends!

All of us here at Maddox Games want to wish you a happy holiday season and lots of fun and excitement in the new year!

We know that 2011 was not the best year in simulation history. While we did manage to finally ship our new flight sim that’s taken so many years of our lives to build, all of us know that things could have gone better. Rest assured that we continue to pour our hearts and souls into the series, and we are continuing to work very hard to make the game better and to earn your trust and respect.

We are very sad that despite all of our efforts we were unable to complete a new patch in time for the holidays. It wasn’t for the lack of trying. It’s just we are actually working to make things right instead of rushing them out to meet an arbitrary deadline. You’ll have the patch when it’s good and ready and does everything we want it to do. We’ll go right back to it in January, and hope to give you a new beta very soon.

Thank you all for your patience and support!

The good news is, we have complete support of our management behind us and we already have plans for the series for years to come (Mayas be damned). The plans include both improving Cliffs of Dover and more than one upcoming sequel. More details will be announced in due course.

And to end this on a high note, we’d like to show you a few screenshots of the airplane that started it all, now on a completely different technological level which is being created for a sequel.

I think you're mistaken there, Luthier. A lot of us are reassured by a complete-looking screenshot of a Sturmovik.

Makes me feel like work is progressing.

Honestly, I think if you just put out some screenshots every friday, a lot of the **** that goes on on these forums would die down quickly. All we want are some tidbits of information to show us that work is ongoing. But sometimes getting information out of Maddox Games is like pulling teeth.

It is nice to know that you keep going on, and most importantly that you have support from management too.It adds in my opinion further optimism. Whenever i can i will support you because for the level of work you have done in all these years ( since Il-2 :) ) was enough for me to get me into this genre and helped me cultivate my interests in planes of that era ( for now not able to fly in real life), so in my opinion you deserve my contribution. Offcourse time passes, everything changes we may pass nice times or we may pass new problems and difficulties but the best is to get over such difficulties in the best possible way.
I could say such period was seen in the life of Cliffs of Dover but knowing work is being done its always good to know and means that things will improve and continue.

Many thanks for the updates and the early look at the IL-2. Cliffs of Dover is a start and a foundation and while it's no secret that it has some issues... so did IL-2 when it first came out. Aside from bug fixes...this series needs content and this is a great step. I look forward to returning to the Eastern Front! Happy New Years and keep it up in the new year!

On the contrary. As a long time IL2 simmer - since the first day of the first release - I really appreciate all that is being done. I believe that I understand the business model you have and financial and other considerations.

I and others continue to fly on the ATAG server on a regular basis and are always amazed at the positive points we come across. The ones not working quite as hoped are circumvented in the knowledge that in time those things will be improved.

I really love flying the Sturmovik and look forward to the upcoming series as they fall into place. For now, Cliffs of Dover is a pleasure to fly.

Due to the lack of proper lighting and complete lack of dinamic shadows and other fx I think the BoM shot we have here is taken from their visualisation model program, not from the game engine. I´m sure this same model rendered in the actual game with all fx on would look way better.

I’d just like to clarify a couple of things, just in case:

1. We are continuing to work on ALL previously announced features: graphics, FM, AI, radio comms, launcher errors, etc. This has always been a constant, never changed, not expected to change.

2. We assume that the most common reaction to the screenshots will be “why the heck do we need that, why didn’t you work on XYZ instead”. We almost decided to skip the screenshots altogether, but then decided that we’ll get the same reaction if we post nothing as well. So we decided to post these anyway – and we’ve got our asbestos suits on.

To be honest I love all sorts of content additions. Patching bugs and issues is important, yes, but new content is ALWAYS welcome. In the long run it will make sure that IL-2 remains a versatile and interesting sim. I don't care if it's trains, trees, bikes, cars, planes! or bushes - I'm happy with any addition to the sim really.

That said I return the wishes for a happy new year to the team. Enjoy the season and return in good spirit in the next year. :)

i'm buying BOM if:

- it allows merging maps and planes from both BOM and CLoD
- it brings better/correct FM
- it brings the clouds as promised in past SOW videos
- it brings weather system or at least weather variations
- it allows merging last two features with the CLoD content
- it brings dynamic campaign at least for the BOM scenario
- it features better AI
- it keeps performance at acceptable levels

Wow! Another year passed by, and in 3 months Cliffs of Dover will be a year old! It seems like yesterday that this game was a buggy mess that played horribly on high-end system, had no Direct X 11 support, no real FSAA, no actual game content, radio commands, a non-existent tutorial mode, debriefings that made no sense, multi-player crashing, and a mile long list of other things wrong with it.

Look as how far this game has come . . . waaaaaait!!!!

I for one am tremendously greatful that luthier, B6 and the rest of the Maddox team have put their impressive talents to work in creating historically accurate simulations for those of us who are facinated by the sights and sounds of WWII air combat and not interested in the sea of junk that exists on TV or in other gaming franchises (football not included!!). If anyone who is here doesn't get it by now they never will. This sim is a work in progress ... eventually it will cover a wide range of theaters with a detailed plane set .. Will it cover the range of IL2? I don't know .. and frankly I am like Rhett Butler on that ... I am pretty confident that given the nature of the business and the market that there is a lot more room to cover and that many of the aircraft that I would like to see will eventually make it into this sim. If it doesn't happen in 6 months I for one wont loose any sleep. To tell the truth I still can't fly CoD well yet .. my rig can't handle it well... and maybe that is where my patience comes from ... but given the track record of 1C ... it may not come when we'd all like it .. and it may take longer than two weeks.. but eventually it will come. I am still laughing at all those "BoB is vaporware ... " folks who swore that we would ever see this product in the first place. Those screens look great .. and from what I have seen of CoD it is great and has so much potential that we are just scratching the surface I bet ... so thanks for the update.

Happy New Year to all! Just to throw my 2 cents/pence/kopecks into the mix.

#1 Luthier, glad to see all the work so far. I put CLOD up for a few months while you guys worked on it, and after jumping back into the game this weekend, I must say its come a long way. I know there is still a lot to do, but I enjoyed my time spent this weekend. I know there is no way of pleasing everyone, but my hats off. Despite my initial frustration, im happy to see where you guys have gotten the sim so far.

#2 I remember seeing the original IL-2 and thinking "who the hell wants to fly that?". And yet, here we are a decade later arguing over the same software. :) I look forward to seeing all our old familiar birds from the east back up and flying with all the new pits and CEM.

For all the whiners and naysayers, would you rather them do nothing? This series started off on the east front after all, why not revisit it again? Any new addition is a very good thing, sooner or later we will see all the rest show up. In the mean time, there is still IL-2, Rise of Flight, ect.
