I have posted an update to my Spitfire Dawn Campaign on Airwarfare.com.
Link: http://airwarfare.com/sow/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=53&task=view.download&catid=4&cid=221
I have substantially reworked my original Spitfire Dawn Ver.1.01 campaign to include more historically accurate airfield objects at Kenley, Manston and Tangmere. All missions have been tweaked and reworked to improve them.
This 16 mission campaign has been designed to take you through 'ab initio' pilot training on the Tiger Moth, then advanced training on the Spitfire and finally posting to a 'RAF front line Squadron' - 64 Squadron, Kenley.
You had successfully completed your basic and advanced pilot training as the German Wehrmacht had 'stormed through' Holland, Belgium and France. They were now poised to attack England.
Your promotion to Pilot Officer had come through and your posting to 64 Squadron, Kenley, flying Spitfires, had been confirmed.
You will fly as 'A' Flight 2IC engaging the Luftwaffe as they begin there aerial onslaught on England.
64 Squadron fought from the beginning of the 'Battle of Britain' on the 10th July 1940 until mid August when they were withdrawn north to Leconfield to rest.
Please read the campaign notes before starting the campaign.
Happy Christmas

Great work - thank you!
Do i have the permission to change a few of your missions into Multiplayer-Coops?

FG28_Kodiak you certainly have permission to change a few of my missions into Mutiplayer-Coops. We need all the help we can in the FMB area at the moment.
When you have time, I would be grateful if you could have a look at the CS files in the Spitfire Dawn campaign and see if you can get them to work with at least mission successful, mission failed. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't?? I haven't put any 'trigger points' in the campaign, every mission is co-ordinated to work when the enemy aircraft are in contact.
I will have a look at seeing if I can get some 'trigger points' to work in some of the missions.

I think I have downloaded & tried almost all available campaigns for CloD & in general have liked them all...and grateful for the third party guys that have worked on them, but it is this one that i truly believe should have been packed in the original release- its well thought out has several training missions ,has a believable story line ( I'm up to the 4th mission;) it simply has the depth that was somehow missing in the original two campaigns packed in the sim. They weren't bad but like the missions in Pacific Fighters they seem a bit...uh...thin.
This campaign would have made a great start point for newbies- I wish it was included in an official patch !Now if only I could get my FPS above 20...
Good work & many thanks!

Thanks jamesdietz for your appraisal of my 'Spitfire Dawn ver.1.02 campaign', much appreciated.
As we all know now, Maddox 1C was really struggling to release the IL-2 COD in a playable form, many things had not been completed properly.
I have tryed very hard to 'get into the game' creating new missions/campaigns, there are a lot of things still to be completed.
The more I got into the campaign FMB building, the more I really appreciated Ilya and his teams efforts. There is no doubt that they have produced the basis for WWII's best flight sim.
They currently appear to have limited resources, though I am sure if they release 'third party' building tools, this will take some of the pressure off them.
I would also like to see them prioritise the full completion of the FMB, which I think is the 'heart and sole' of the game.

what is with the tiger moth in this campaign? every time I start the first mission the moth turns through 180 degress facing away from the airfield and no amount of coaxing will get it to point back to the airfield so I never reach waypoint 1 (takeoff). is this just happening to me? If not how are you guys stopping this?

Yes, the tiger moth is a nuisance like that spinning on the ground with nothing turned on, I've wrecked a few hangars trying to get airborne. It also happens with the spit, though less noticeable. No amount of rudder will make it go in the direction you require.
Other than that, I have to say its a stonking good little campaign, waypoints are correctly spaced and set up, even the approach marker waypoint for landings are included, the missions end when you land safely, rather than waiting a few minutes, and there appears to be less of the endlessly cirling the airfield waiting for landing clearance.
Great work, love the historical touch, none of the hollywood muck of the original campaign, not to mention the bibliography in the notes. I tip my hat to DF Lion.

followed your installation instructions but keep getting 'Steam folder not found' for the following path: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Stamapps\common\il2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts\bob\mission\campaign.
Tried extracting to same path using WinZip but CoD won' recognise it.

your zip unpacked as Spifire_Dawn, without the 't'. Now installed ok.

Thanks for your feedback on the campaign BO109, much appreciated.
My main computer is beng rebuilt at the moment, so I can't test anything. I think the problem with the Tigermoth spinning around is something to do with setting up the airfield wind direction and speed in the FMB. I built this campaign in the first version of the game and then adapted it into the latest version. In the latest version I think the wind parameters have been turned on in the FMB. When I get back into the game I will test it.

Should you require any further testing, I'd be happy to help out. All I can say about the campaign is that it's significantly better than the one supplied by 1C. Hope you get the ol' PC up and running soon. It's folks like your good self that make this game worthwhile.
All the best.
Bo.
P.S. to NoTimeJeff and others, when installing the campaign, click the IL2Campaign Tool.exe, and hit the 'Campaign' button, and locate where you have extracted the zip file. Once you locate the Spifire_Dawn_Ver_1.02 folder click ok.
Beneath that, it will have Steam Path c:\program files (x86)\steam\ or similar, depending on your system configuration. Don't change this. Just hit install, and then fire up the game, it should be listed under your campaigns. ~Now, get your Cocky Dundas on.....

Logged in as i just wanted to thank you for the great work and effort. Played through the original and now 1.02. Much better than standard missions supplied with game so shows what really can be done with this game. Really got into the gradual experience curve and helped me get immersed into it and success in a mission really meant something. Also first time i took off and saw a train chugging along made me do a double take. Grew up around Tangmere and learnt to drive on the runway so missions based there were especially welcome.
Can't wait for the next episode if you have the time!

The moth is as light as a feather and has no wheel brakes, so weather-cocking (the tendency to yaw into the wind that is so prevalent in tail-draggers) is more pronounced.
The best thing you can do is pull the stick back into your lap and once your engine is running, you can use short bursts of throttle with a lot of rudder to turn it around. Just remember to keep the stick back so that you get the required downforce on the tail.
It might be beneficial to relax back stick pressure during turns, so that the tail skid doesn't dig in and act as a brake, then pull back again once you are facing where you want to and you center rudder and chop throttle, but i haven't tested this extensively.
Hope it helps ;)

Thanks for this information Blackdog_kt. The Tigermoth is as 'light as feather' and has been faithfully modelled in the sim, it is a delight to fly. At start-up, pulling back on the stick hard gets the elevator up into the propwash and the down force on the tail and this helps stability.
I have managed to successfully taxi the Tigermoth in the missions, both prior to takeoff and after landing, although the swing is hard to correct sometimes.
I still think the wind direction and strength is a factor in the sim (faithfully modelled), as I have noticed seeing real Tigermoths starting-up and taxying and there is always somebody walking on the ground holding and guiding the aircraft if it is a bit windy.
