Thought this was interesting. Have read from some guys that planes should not fly with massive damage to the wings. Well take a look at these shots.

Lost half of my starboard side wing off my Hurricane mid channel the other night at around 13,000 ft.

I was able, using a combination of aileron and rudder, to keep it flying relatively straight. Used throttle and pitch mostly to make my descent and executed a (rather nice) gear up landing at Hawkinge. No thump, just a gentle slide and stop. Even managed to do a circuit of the field to bleed off more speed and fuel before attempting to come in.

I was still getting lift on the starboard side because enough of the wing was left for an airfoil to keep me flying.

None of this is to say it was easy. It was brown trousers time the whole way.

Looks like half a plane but is a Blohm & Voss BV 141.

Hmmm...

Now that is a very different story from the one I heard...

A book said that the aircraft became locked when landing one landing on top of another that had just touched down....

EDIT...

My bad that was a different incident... in which case ^ WOW

Life sucks some times. It says at the end of the film the pilot Fuller goes on to fly with the RAAF but gets hit by a bus and dies in March 1944.:(
