I can't recall if I saw this story on video or if I read the story. I'm pretty sure it was on the eastern front somewhere between the Russians and Germans. Although I could be off.
The story goes something like this. Ace fighter pilot shoots down/forces down an enemy plane where the pilot had a case of champagne/wine visible in his lap. Ace lands, get the champagne/wine and takes it back to base.
I know I heard or saw the story somewhere.
Can you help? Anyone heard of this? I'd like to remember the details

Only one I know of along those lines is where (iirc - may be open to correction) Galland was due to deliver some cognac or whatever to another base in northern France for a party during the BoB. He went for a quick flip over the channel with his wingman and shot down 1 or 2 Hurricanes before continuing on to his destination. Your tale sounds intriguing.

Can't help with that one..
However it did get me thinking about stuff in fighters that shouldn't be there..
When the first Spitfires were flown into Malta they had no ammo in the wings, all the space was filled with cigarettes.
Then there were the Spitfires modified to carry beer kegs under the wings.

Wouldn't mind one of those landing in my backyard.

Same kind of thing in Helmet Lipfert's book with 109s but the drop tanks were filled with beer.

Yes that's also mentioned in Günther Rall's and few other JG52 pilot's books, but IIRC it was not drop tanks with beer but simply beer barrels fitted to drop tank hanger.
