No need to buy a "monster" rig. For me a 900 EUR PC did it well. See sig.

S!

No. If Luthier's statement of the new and better graphics engine, that should be more optimized, I should not need to. Those bugs and missing featues hamper us more than any rig's performance at the moment. Possibly would go CrossFire IF the dev team gets it to work proper.

Get a mini monster rig as Foobar sugests. I got almost the same config for about a $1000. When the game is optimized and SLI/CF are implemented it's time to built something scarry. I have a few custom missions with 24 Spitfires and Hurricanes taking on about 100 he111 and 24 109's over Southern England. Runs around 25-30fps most of the time at high settings so it's possible.

If you can, try and wait until the Summer. The flooding in Thailand will keep component prices on certain things high until the flooding is over and the cleanup is well under way or finished.

I may do but will wait and see how the next update performs on my current PC. I had been looking at the I7 2600K mobo bundles on offer as a possible new year upgrade but the longer I can wait the less I will have to pay (I hope).

if the next patchs brings il2 to a far better standard ( AI works, DCG, performance, no building popping etc) ill go a for a new pc the day after, until then mine is able to run everithing else i play nicely, so not worth the investment.

How dare you to want another patch???? They are working as hard as they can!!!!! Is it Olegs fault you only have 8 GB of RAM?? 12GB should be minimum nowadays!!!!!!

That's interesting! I definiely need to ask for advice before I part with my cash as I;m sure I saw i5 bundles for less. Out of curiosity, (start my education now....) what are the advantages/disadvantages between i7 and i5 Insuber?

IMO, anyone planning to upgrade their system should not base it on improvement of COD performance.

If you want to upgrade for other reasons, go for it.

Also, in March the new Ivy Bridge CPUs are coming and the Sandy Bridge prices will drop accordingly.

The 3 differences are:

- 0.1 GHz more of the fastest i7 on the fastest i5 (3.4 GHz vs 3.3 GHz), not a big deal given the overclock capabilities of the SandyBridge
- Hyperthreading, which simulates 8 cores. Slightly better for video encoding, compiling, graphics creation etc, useless for games
- 8 MB cache vs. 6 MB

So, if your main use is games and sims, my advice is to go for an i5 and spend the extra cash for a bigger video card with more VRAM, the real bottle neck of this game.
if you do other stuff, have a look at benchmarks and decide by yourself. Anandtech has a very clear CPU benchmark section.

Cheers,

already got me new motherboard mounted in my new case... Asus rampage III black edition in a coolermaster HAF X, hopefully in the coming weeks will throw in a corsair gold 1200w psu, I7 990x cpu, H70 liquid cooling, 12gb of corsair dominator GT ram and either a rog gtx580 matrix or a gtx590... Should b a beast :D

admitidly, it is for clod, i want to be able to run it off its nut, and also for track recording.... But its also to cover for gaming for the next few years :)

a psu works most effektive at 85 to 90% load.

They claimed that this next patch would improve the preformance with atleast 50%.
Cant know how true that is but even 20-30% inproved fps would make it so much more playable.

Nope. Upgraded when CloD first came out. I had an absolute limit of £500 and got the bits in my sig. I kept existing case, HDDs, PSU and old 1680 x 1050 LG monitor etc. Total price £480 and I have been very pleased with the results for the money. I should probably have got a card with more Vram but CloD is perfectly playable with everything at maximum or a bit smoother under heavy load situations if I drop the landscape settings a bit.
I will probably get some more ram fairly soon and maybe a second card next year although 560ti's are not the best choice for Sli or so I have read.

That other stuff typically revolves around Hyperthreading. So unless you're using a lot of $1000+ apps or database software, don't bother, because all an i7 will do is save you .5 seconds the next time you click "ok" to start a job that will take you more than a minute.

one would be surprised how many "hardware" issues are related to a PSU that is under powered.

Especially if you've got world class audio / video cards and lots of USB toys

On-board sound is perfectly fine. The only people that would notice a difference are "music aficionados" with very expensive speakers or headphones. Unless your motherboard is from 1997 you don't have to worry about crappy sound. As for speakers, you need to first determine what you want to pay, then go to a big-box store where they have a lot of models being demoed and give them a listen.

Having a system that can run todays Sims like ...ROF, A10C and CLOD is one thing...

Having the CLOD developers correct the problems so it will run/perform smoothly without bugs is another....

If they improve CLOD performance with the new graphics and sound ...that will be great...

but CLOD has some inherent performance problems where resolution of those problems may be a long time out....

At this point.....do not expect a that new or high end system will solve your CLOD problems...it will not.

Myself? I just like new toys and I will upgrade and buy new stuff...just cuz it puts the wind beneath my wings

I am planning on getting an i7 3660k, nvidea 580 3mb, 8gb ram, solid state hard drive, on windows 7 64bit. The current pc I use was built in 2004 so it does not run any new games. I think I got my return on my investment with 7 years of pretty hard use.

Hopefully this rig should be able to run whatever modded version of il2 is out. Unfortunately I will probably hold off on COD until the merged version comes out with Moscow battle. To many issues and unknowns for me to deal with the frustration. I know that this rig may be at the low end by then but DCS A-10 Il2 modded, and ArmA3 are really looking like they will occupy my time until then.

my 2 cents :)

I am a HUGE fan of spending way too much money on computers so my first instinct is to say go for it dude and don't pinch a penny if you can help it lol.

Now that said, it really should not be necessary to get a huge system if your goal is to just be able to run a game well. most games can be run very well while still staying within the 500-800 range, and im sure that there are MANY out there that say they can do it for 50 bucks and such but not being one of those magical people my self I tend to find that a well built 500-800 dollar rig hangs in there with the best of them on most all new titles and does it very well.

NOW.... THAT said....lol i was one of the fortunate ones to have a job and was able to spend a more than normally reasonable amount of money on my new rig and I bought it for a few reasons but the top most one of them was to be ready to run CLOD when it hit the market and my hope was to run it with all the bells and whistles turned up ( or as close to it as i could get ).

If you know the history of the release then I do not need to tell you this did not happen. :) but Since every new and old game runs on this same system with crippling speed and agility I really do not have anything to complain about. In fact I go as far as to thank very much the hype of this game for forcing my hand in making me upgrade so big and much quicker then I would have done on my own :)

My specs are posted below and this system does ...... well ...... run CLOD. but I still get stutters and it does not really give me as good as a performance as I would like to have seen. This is likely still largely due to the fact that Cross Fire / SLI have not really been well optimized in CLOD's code along with all the other issues that there still working on. People with less hardware then myself are reporting much better performance then myself but my guess would be they are using Single large video cards and might have done some tweaking of a lot of there settings to get this result.

If you are one of the people capable of doing this tweeking then I hear it is possible to get better performance then the stock build but I do not do much adjusting unless its very simple and I know for sure I wont break any thing so my experience has been as described.

Finally I say happy buying :) <--------------this has been me every day since i bought this beautiful machine and I am sure you will be too no matter what you get. Every time I play DCS, crysis, IL2 46, ROF, Might and Magic VI, DOWII, WOW, Star Wars TOR (beta Tester), Iracing, and every other game with every graphics option turned to EXTREME!!! I am all teeth listining to those cooling fans run up and start humming as they cool those twin beauties to a consistent 61-65C MUahahahahahahahahahahah....... oh sorry lol i get excited :)

congrats ahead of time dude :)
