Hey gang:

On multiplayer and a discussion came up on what resolution to use for better visibility to spot an enemy. My res. only goes to 1280X1024 75 Hx. The guys on Team Speak had numbers way higher than that.
My issue is these guys were certainly spotting stuff way before I could.

Ideas here ??

Well what size is your monitor? Sounds like a 17" or 19" or something like that.

Jepp, would, you can also switch off all details, go for lowest settings and lowest resolution... like the guys who switched off trees in old 1946 to better spot contacts...

I hope that is not a serious recommendation...

It's sad that people indeed do that in order to win. And above all call it a 'tactic'.

Tacoma:

I have a 19" monitor:

There have been talk about getting rid of the trees to better spot low flying aircraft

Basically the bigger and higher max resolution your monitor is, used along with a super low resolution in game would make distant planes alot easier to spot. Just as cheesehawk has said. Instead of using one pixel for a distant object at max resolution it would use multiple at a lower res, thus making it easier to see...

Thanks gang
good info: I'm gonna go fiddle with all that

So people flying at native resolution are handicapped? Geez. While nice to know, i won´t lower my resolution, just for the purpose of being able to spot them more easily.

I don't agree with this idea that ac are easier to see at lower res and find high res far better at rendering distant ac. My 22 in monitor is 1920 x 1080 native and the only other res that is acceptable in terms of clear defintion is 1280 x 1024 with a 4:3 aspect.

I switch between those two depending on wether I am in MP or SP. I tried all the other lower resolutions (e.g, widescreen 1600 x 900) but found them all to be inferior in terms of spotting ac. I would think that a larger display at high res is probably far better.

I seem to be able to spot planes and ships well on SP and MP, sometimes it seems, before my companions spot them. I just run everything native on a big screen.

I tried the lower resolution and Yuck !!!! it was like a arcade game.

I think my issue is that I am really new: and will have to learn how to spot.

probably much like the real pilots had to learn

I'm playing on 1680x1050 (native resolution) on a 22inch LCD.

Up until four days ago, my dot visabilty was absolutly attrocious. I was always at a disadvantage in multiplayer without labels. Over about 200 metres way I could not see an E/A, and I had no hope of tracking a fast moving plane against the ground.

I happened to mention it on teamspeak and One of the guys asked me if I had calibrated my monitor, the answer to which was "no".

5 minutes later after using the windows 7 screen calibration utility and it has transformed my game. I can actually see the dots way out into the distance and I can track aircraft against the terrrain which was impossible for me to do before.

Make sure you have calibrated your monitor and give it a go with native resolution before reducing your resolution for visibility purposes.

Cheers!

S!

I have a LG 30" LCD with 2560x1600 native. Can't see poopie with it, but the game is so pretty that I can't lower the res :) With 90 fov (and higher) I can read the instruments clearly, but usually I spot enemy ac when they start firing at me :)
