because there are dozens of flying 1943 examples of 109s
oh wait
looks interesting mind, nce that there seem to be a few more WW2 aviation movies, regardless of how many rivets they get correct.

What the hell in 2011 Hollywood still has against Physics. It look like Catholic church in the Middle Age saying no to Copernic.
Can't they simply hire a competent man to look after other job ! Or is all that money so short ? You can put dozen of CGI specialist behind a project but if none of them has ever studied mechanics of motion what do you expect ?
Even 1940's Fantasia Broomsticks FM are better worked !

Spot on mate, doesn't matter how pretty it looks if it flys like starwars! Actually starwars flight seemed to have more physics involved than these modern movies!

Stars Wars battle scenes (the Death Star bit) were almost copied on The Battle of Britain movie...somebody made a video showing it...somewhere on this forum IIRC !

Some of the shots/sequences reminded me a bit of European Airwar. Great sim for it's time.

With respect to the new Red tail movie it looks not so bad in terms of defying physics. In the short scenes it does not look too bad.
Of course real planes would be great but we'll never see a movie again made with loads of real planes of the era.

Yep, looks nice if it would be a video game but not as a movie in 2011.

The new graphics, physics and rendering ability of air combat simulation type software is so spectacular. You couple that with new software animation tools... poke in a few actors and you've got an exciting epic film.
Shooting air combat sequences in the past required a great deal of expense, qualified pilots and in air camera work. Those days are done. People are accustomed to wild setups for animations and special effects in movies, from the likes of Iron man, X-men, transformers, etc.
I look forward to air combat war stories with the new software tools making it all possible.

Hmmmm......better watch "Memphis Belle", the movie, not the documentary.
wow, seems more like a fan made video creation

TBH it doesn't look all that different to any CLOD video edited movie from Barfly - which is good , but also bad.
I think they only have about 5 or so flyable B17's in the world ( or ones of the olive green model ) which I read when Memphis Belle came out. They just kept using the same planes over and over like on take off ect.

I really do hope that someday, somewhere, somebody will do AGAIN flak like this.... strange thing is You can actually fly through this stuff-well most of the time- and live.
Game is B-17 Mighty Eighth by Microprose.

I downloaded the film. As an old B17-II simmer the worst this is was that they didn't even try to show the Norden bomb sight in action. They just put the cross on the target and pressed the button. :(

Making aviation films must be incredibly difficult. At least one would assume so, based on how bad they always are.

The movie concept looks good but the CGI looks like a game.
Someone mentioned European Air War. That's not too far from the truth.
Tom and Jerry would look right at home in this movie.
Hopefully they will add a bit more realism to these sequences.

Skoshi Tiger,link please?
I think it looks very promising, and a good story makes up for it's CGI shortcomings(which look very good actually, you fools!)

Aloha!
I saw the movie yesterday and it *****me up for the time i spended to watch!
You can watch throeghout the Cod-Video threads and got within nicer vids!
The scenes between the battles are like stolen from a daily soap, the "sherminanator" sucks in this movie and there are nicer battlescenes in Star Wars! (funny is, they are more convincing than the scenes from fortress!!!!)
Don`t waste your time!
Salut

Yeah I watched it yesterday too. Well just the battle parts , from the amount of skipping I did it looked like a pretty average movie.
Actually it is.

Not the best movie, but I wasn't expecting too much. It probably would have been better as a tv series.
The funny thing was the varied quality of the CGI. In parts it was really good.
What I think happened is that after filming they realized that they weren't going to make too much money at the box office and pulled the plug on the final rendering of the CGI. This left many of the scenes looking like they came out of a computer game.
Cheers!

I just skimmed it for now. The combat looked good. No Luftwaffe guys as usual..will there ever be? I think my dream movie starts out with a JG 27 pilot taking a hangover dump in the out house so people will see robots don't fly those 109s :) Also I dream of the day when 109s sound like 109s..... not lawnmowers
