A brand new small, but outstanding museum opened it's gates on the island Usedom at the baltic coast in Germany.

It's called "Hangar 10" and the approach of the owner family is to display WW2 fighters of 4 countries (Germany, England, USA, Russia) and the corresponding trainer airplane in airworthy condition!
At the moment the hangar contains:

BF 109 Buchon
BF 109 G14 (only static)
Jak 9
Bücker Bü 131 Jungmann
DH82 Tiger Moth
North American AT-6
Boing Stearman
Polikarpow Po-2

A FW-190 D9 is currently under restauration for static display, a Spit T9 (the trainer version of the Mark-IX) is soon ready to fly and after the loss of their P-51D BBD (skyraider incident at Dux) another Mustang (a TF-51) is under construction.

In addition, a third (!) 109, an airworthy E3, is planned for 2012 and a Flugwerk FW-190 A8/N is planned for 2013.

So if you are in the north eastern part of Germany, a visit of this place is a must...

During my visit last Wednesday i took the following pictures.
As I said... These guys are living our dreams... ;)

LOL...
The best address for the "cockpit feel" is the Luftfahrtmuseeum in Hannover Laatzen.
For a small donation, you can sit in the bf-109G2, FW-190A8 and Spit Mark19 cockpits. It's a great experience to compare the different layouts and views...

Its nice to see old planes preserved, but is it just me or does it seem to anyone else that seeing them parked in a display hanger they just seem kinda , well, dead, lifeless, not the vibrant living things they once were.
In fact they may as well be those fibreglass replicas like them spitfires on plinths you see outside RAF stations, rather like lifesize versions of those airfix models I used to make as a child.
Im also suprised that musiums dont organise more "exchanges" swap you a English Electric Lightening for a starfighter, or perhaps a mosquito for a JU88, or maybe a Marauder for a betty ?
Ps Is their a Tempest anywhere ? or a Whirlwind ?

Tempest II in the Static hall at RAF Hendon, Tempest V hanging from the roof in the First hall at Hendon as well.

Whirlwind ... I don't think any airframes still exist.

I'm sure that Bouchon is Harold Kindsvater's. If the Germans own it now maybe they'll put a Daimler Benz in it. Hope so.
