View Full Version : How to disable forcefeedback?

So, i have a msffb2, and i want to disable the force feedback, like you can in il2, in the conf.ini, and through the gui.

Basically, imo the ffb sucks in clod, but even more irritatingly, it seems to start the mission clicked out, then comes back in after 20 seconds or so, only to depart on a whim, and its pissing me off when i'm flying.

deleting the files in the ffb folder only removes the effects of course, and no one likes a floppy stick......

so any ideas how to turn it off?

I've tried setting FF=0 in the rts joystick section of both conf.ini's to no avail......

Seconded. Also an MSFF2 owner and running Win7x64. I have to use modified (lower strength) FF files to be able to fly the at all.

Give us the option to control FF strength and to disable it.

I've experienced the same on/off glitch which is an annoying immersion-killer. Also:

1) if a Spit or Hurri develops engine trouble the stick nearly shakes itself off the table and makes the aircraft impossible to fly to the nearest airfield (unless you hold the stick with thumb and forefinger to disconnect the force feedback effects, and

2) when shooting the guns there is force feedback through the stick which sends unwanted input to the control surfaces, causing the plane to wobble and throwing your aim off target. Cannons are even worse!

I've retired my MSFFB2 from CoD and replaced it (for now) with a TM16000. Although it's an excellent stick (at only $47!) with precise Halls sensors, I miss having good force feedback that other current sims provide -- especially the shudder before a stall.

I wish FF could be tuned in the GUI (hey, some may LIKE the guns or engine trouble causing the stick to shake!) and keep the force feedback effects of the control surfaces turned on constantly.

@ Snapper and fruitbat.....Yeah it's a PITA and especially the overpowering cannons (which is of course unrealistic anyway)

I have both a MSFFB2 and a G940, with the G940 at least you can control to an extent the forces on the stick.....I've been able to mitigate the cannon effects, but it's still far from ideal however.

Hopefully they will introduce improvements and further adjustability in time. In previous IL2 titles for example you were able to either rename or remove the .ffe files in the force feedback folder, (autocannon.ffe etc) to stop the effect, but now you can't even do that.

I hope they bring it up to the standard of RoF's FFB implementation, very good in that sim. There was/is a good payware program which allows one to alter MSFBB2 effects, but unfortunately I cannot recall the name and only use the stick as backup now. I believe it would also only work with 32 bit systems, but please don't quote me on that......not 100% sure. If I remember I'll post back here.

I've recently returned back to my MSFFB2 stick from the Thrustmaster TM16000, just because I prefer the ergos of it (the TM16000 is an excellent stick, though, especially for just $47). I downloaded a couple of FFB files from our friends here:

After a little poking around, I located CoD's ForceFeedback files here:

C: Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover/parts/core/FF

(yeah, I know someone here could've pointed me there right away, but I just like pokin' around.... ;) )

After backing up the game's FF file, I then did a bit of mix 'n match with the FF files contained within the two modded FFB files found in the link above. Basically, I wanted to tone down the gun files and the shake files in order to aim properly and be able to nurse an ailing Spitfire/Hurricane home without the stick shaking off the desk. Mission accomplished.

The other nuisance of FFB kicking in and out at weird times is obviously a glitch that hopefully 1C will fix in upcoming patches.

A quick fix is to rename the ffb files that cause the worst effects, punch.ffe & cannon.ffe if I remember rightly.
I also have an MSFFB2.
