Can someone explain to me why such a great technology is not widely used in games?

at the beginning i thought that was MY door that opened

I listened to this in my advisement class in my high school, and I believe I can say that I know how a crazy person feels, haha.

Sound is amazing, scared me at first lol

awsome vid!! :D

Oh my god... Really realistic... When he did the thing with the scissors... I opened my eyes and THREW my headphones off.

and the last one you can keep having fun yourself

"its good (they used to call it stereo)"

...

once in the radio i listen the guy playing a joke:

should i play the monoarual version or the other ;)

edit:

odd listening to this changes my perception visually

how can singers record in stereo if their mic is two channels IN THE SAME SPOT?

edit:

This is true of individual instruments too, guitars are usually mic'd using one single mic. Stereo comes into it's own when the song is mixed more than when it's recorded.

For example you might have 8 microphones on a drum kit, each mono, you then 'place' them into the mix, so you'd mix it as you would look at it, so you'd have the right hand crash cymbal mixed to the right, it's just a mono track placed to the right of the stereo 'picture'.

So for a drum kit you might have the Bass drum dead centre, the cymbals left and right the toms mixed relative to where they are in the kit from right to left etc. This gives each track space and it's more natural sounding because a drum kit has width and it's what your ears expect.

Vocals usually go dead centre but you can widen them quite a lot by copying the mono track and using 2 mono tracks to create a stereo track.

After all, stereo is just two slightly different mono tracks played at the same time.

thanks for the info :) but not being mixed radio talking seems a szchizophrnia simulation of voices coming from the center of your head i guess

Binaural isn't used much simply because it only really works with headphones.

It's created using 2 microphones placed as they would be if they were your ears. Sometimes a fake head is used and they put the mics either side. The effect is that you're listening to the room not just the music.

Like I said it's not widley used because if you listen to a binaural recording through speakers the effect just doesn't work. Which is why we have surround sound systems now.

Radio is mixed, it goes through all sorts of sound processing before it is transmitted. Again, binaural won't really work over FM radio because the signal is heavily compressed before being transmitted (this sort of levels out the sound)

There are more binaural recordings here http://www.binaural.com/serendipity/index.php

i heard if you listen to stereo with headphones sound comes from within your head, binaural instead comes from outside

doesnt sound very healthy

most people use headphones nowadays there should be more binaural imho

seems binaural is made for headphones and stereo for speakers

i miss some naturality in recording as those links

listening to the radio i often get weird freak out feelings :(

edit:

why this is so rare:

in fact admit it this is probably the 1st time you see a singer using two mics, cough supresion cough cough

edit:

checkout how when domingo moves the head you can tell by the sound

i miss that :(

hell why they dont do it in radio, i cant locat radio voices, and the music ones have position but static

i want to listen katy perry and be able to tell by the sound how she dances maybe i could tell how she wispers in my ear

godam world gotta change it

I have seen singers use 2 mics before, lots of times.

I agree with you about the use of Stereo, it's not used as creativley as it used to be, if you listen to some late 60's stereo recordings they would do something crazy like have the drums far left the bass far right and stick the vocals over to one side too.

It's much more subtle these days, you get things ping ponging around and they tend to use more width. Some stereo Beatles recordings are really interesting through headphones. You can remove certain sounds simply by messing around with the balance because they have sounds comming out of only one side.

Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles is a good exampe. You can pan left or right and get a drastic change in the sound of the song.

hey that gave me a headache

the system is working hard on subliminals on me but apparently they can do nothing due to paradox

for example often i listen to music in the radio which is wildly biased toward one side this makes something strange in my brain

here you have one proof of how im exposed to subliminals

i dream someone tells me the end of the world is in one year and next day i see this on tv

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhvB5UyzjXc

you can hear how that cuts my breathing for 40 secs

i get some wild ideas dont know from where that i lose one hand in the future and im expose to this:

in the last photogram appears a momified hand:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbDEqErtakk&feature=player_embedded

i mean lets suppose i have to do something in the future important and someone tries to change it

wwll due to paradox they can change anything except the thing they want to change

omg still have a headache by that time loop video

edit:

also that book the end of eternity by asimov:

the wolrd divided in "eternals" who extend life as much as they can and time fixed who make history, all woman are time fixed according asimov :) hehe take that

and shakespeare said it the world is a stage :)

hey really what was that time loop video suppose to be my head still hurts, im not used to that kind of tech

There actually quite a few stereo recordigs that were recorded using simple mike setups.

Problem is that it requires quite a bit of extra effort at the recording stage.

So it's cheaper to just record the instruments individually, and not as a whole.

Of course that make's real stero impossible.
That's why some of those (older) stereo recordings haven quite a following.

Check out Mercury's living presence series for instance.

And then get into High End stero and go broke.
