View Full Version : hmm, whats this washed up on my beach.

anyone know what species this is ???, ive tried to find a website that might help me with this as it is very unusuall for this to sort of thing to be seen on my beach (Bispham/Cleveleys). to no avail i thought id ask here.

im thinking a baby whale maybe of the killer variety ? its about 2ft long maybe more.

I would guess it`s the remains of a young Common porpoise "Phocoena phocoena". I can watch them quite regularly in the Baltic sea - nice fellows.

Valid point, if they were bitten off, the bones should be visible. I guess they are burried under his fuslage.

side fins is there right in the centre, black skin still on it. in its mouth was stuffed with wood, lolipop sticks etc, :( i had thought it got that stuff stuck there and therefore died... but from that skeletal image the jaw and head dont seem quite as sharp and pointed.

I don't know what you call it but I am sure that it sure would taste much better when fresh with a little bit of soy sauce and wasabi mixed together, wrapped in seaweed leaf and sticky rice.

I also thought it had stuff shoved in its throat, but those are actually his jaw bones (most of its mouth decomposed :ick: ). The larger image and the skeleton image up above showed that quite nicely. As far as for its fins, have no idea...
