View Full Version : Going up against Beaufighters over Cherbourg - another youtube video by me

Beaufighters have been spotted off Cherbourg, so we're going up to intercept them:

I know, I know, I should give the Bf-110 a rest. It is just that I really like to fly it! - Those lovely cannons and guns pack a real punch.

The aerodrome on the coast right next to Cherbourg also presents an interesting challenge. Whoever put that hill at the end of the runway wasn't too clever... - I like to go and discover some more far-off corners of the huge map and Cherbourg is a place I didn't visit yet, so that explains the setting.

The Beaufighters could really do with a rear gunner, but I'm not one to complain when I go up against them in my trusted Messerschmitt. It is the first time I have faced Beaufighters and I think it is safe to say that they were a bit overmatched. Wonder if it was like that in real life as well, in a Bf-110 x Beaufighter match-up? - Maybe the AI just didn't fly them very well...

Enjoy this one, and as always, comments very welcome!

Hey, you didn't even finish watching it! ;)

Sorry, I skip the take-offs and landings (unless I feel as though there's a possibility you're going to crash) :-P

How did it go with Elsie and Anne?

The Beaufighter MkIF no reargunner...... Well it was a pure nightfighter variant. And the crewman had already lot to do with watching the radarscreen AND changing the drums to reload the 20 mike- mike :D

Very good - as has become expected. I tried the recording option in the COD game...escaped to screen that says "Start Recording"...provided a file name...then restarted/re-entered the mission...but the recording did not work and I was crashed out of the mission. What process do you use to make your recordings? Do you use a third party recording program? Not FRAPS, right?
I know this question may not be PC or in the right "forum", but there are so many topics and so many comments that it takes all day to find the "right" place.
Thanks.

great gunnery skillz!! i'm jealous. can u maybe explain more the rule of thumb regarding how to aim ahead of the enemy? I alawys seen to either go too far ahead or not as much enough.

Hmm, I pretty much just shoot from their six in this video, don't I? Don't know, just practice, I guess..

Stukadriver, I just grab my missions while I actually fly them, so no "track" file involved. I use MSI Afterburner beta for capture.

Frankyboy, are you teling me the no. 2 guy in the Beaufighter was changing ammo drums? - Fascinating, didn't know that!

Thx for your comments!

It looked like there were quite a few graphic anomalies when you were coming n for a landing.

I didn't see any, it looked pretty gorgeous to me all the way through. - What are you referring to?

Another great video!

Can't imagine being a French villager atop that bluff at the end of the runway. Early one morning, get out of bed, yawn & stretch, open the bedroom curtains......to be greeted by the sight & noise of a Staffel of 110's accelerating towards you barely clearing your rooftop! LOL

In these early Beuas with drum fed Hispanos yes. Like in the 110.

Graphic anomalies 1-3 seems to show a concrete structure jutting out into the water(road, runway island?).

Graphic anomaly 4 seems to show 2 parallel horizontal lines to the left of the landing end of the runway.

Bind a button to 'reload' and watch the bullet counter in the 110! The red light will go out and you get another 60 round drum to fire off.

You dont need the command releaod, the 60round drums of the MG-FF (wich hopefully soon become MG-FF/M!!) are changed automaticly. It just need some seconds, watch the ammocounter right beside the Revi. You have 3 drums with 60rounds for each canon.

Yup, that is the jetty of Cherbourg (not very pretty, I agree) and drainage ditches (I assume) running off from the runway. So, "that's not a bug, that's a feature" :)

I think Krupi is saying you don't need a 'reload' key, which I didn't know either!
I wonder, if the rear gunner gets killed, I assume the reloading stops!

Freycinet
08-08-2011, 04:53 PM
Ah yes,. no reload key. True, if the gunner is killed there should be no more reloading! - Would be cool if they have that! - There are a LOT of damage options, as Fearless-frog has found out. Did you see his screenie of damage modes in the SimHQ forum?

Just stumbled across this... thoese pesky Beaufighters seem to be the most heavily armed beasts in the game, wouldn't mind a go!

Yeah, hope we get them in a later installment in the series... With rockets too!
