This is really annoying, all I want to do is have external view with mouse control. But when using the external view the AI takes control of my plane. Then in order to get it back I gotta alt-F1 to take control of the now AI plane. This makes no sense, it adds an extra step to get back into the cockpit. This is not how it was in IL2.
Please tell me there is a way to get this control key back or eliminate the AI from stealing my plane? As it now, I'm using the external view-follow key.

I had some confusion with it early on but not anymore, the weird thing is i don't remember how i fixed it but i have a suspicion.
Check your controls for a command to switch the control to the AI, map a key of your choice to it and try pressing it the next time the AI "steals" your aircraft.

Thanks for the response, the default key "A" gives control of the plane to the AI. But even clicking that doesn't give me control back. Nor does clicking the cockpit view. Only way I can get my plane back from using the external view is to click Alt-F1(take control of AI plane).
It was so conveniant in IL2 to just click back and forth from cockpit to external view. Now this simple swapping of the view is more difficult with the added swapping control of MY PLANE.

Sorry to post on an old topic, but I have found the problem, at least on my setup. In view control setup, there is 2 external view control settings, named the exact same. Use the second one and assing it the default F2 key. That solved it for me. Save your controls and apply. It will immediatelly correct the situation. Now when you'll press F2 for the external view, you'll be able to toggle back to your seat by pressing F1. That is a bug that has not been addressed as of today feb 2th 2012. If it doesn't work for you, try the first External View setting, it should work.
