Guys, regarding the He-111, I just took it up for the first time and I had quite a fight with it!

I left the oil rads closed for much of the warm-up, but still the temps didn't want to go much over forty... - Bit surprising that, but well, they crept up to a balmy 80 degrees during flight, so I guess that was ok.

On take-off I had to close down the port engine almost fully, to keep the plane from exiting the runway to starboard. Well, I solved that too, and got into the air.

however, when up and flying the trouble really started! - I could hardly get the old bird to go more than 200 kmph. Also, rpms didn't go much higher than 1700. I had superchagers "on" for the whole flight, am I supposed to have that? (The old version with just on and off settings)

I also felt it was really difficult to trim out the plane... - Anyway, lots of trouble and not a very successful flight. couldn't keep up with the other bombers...

Any pointers to how I can get it up to around 350kmph?

Oh, and when I get that far: what actions do I need to take to bomb? - I don't think of actually aiming, I just want to be able to open the bomb bay and let them drop.

I've only flown it sporadically so i don't know how much help i can be.

That being said, some things depend on which one you fly. The 111P has DB engines like the 109 and 110. The 110 has slightly lower operating limits than the 109 and since the 111 is also a large aircraft, i'd start by using the same power settings as the 110. These are not in the manual but you can note them down if you spawn a 110 and look at the gauges for manifold pressure and RPM, there are three red lines with a label on each one per instrument.

The red "d" is continuous power, "30" is probably climb/combat power with a 30 minute limit and "1" is the 1 minute WEP limit. Alternatively, print out Flea's checklists and use the 110's settings listed there when flying the 111P.

The 111H has Jumo engines so things are simpler, just use the settings given in the manual for the Stuka because it also uses the same engine.

Now that you have an idea about what constitutes a useful power setting, just trim it well and let it climb. It's actually pretty steady.

For the superchargers, they should be automatic in the 111P (just like they are in the 109/110) but a few patches ago i think it was incorrectly modeled with a manual selector. I don't know if this has been corrected.

The 111H did have manual supercharger control and this is also reflected in the sim. The rule of thumb is to start with the low gear and switch to high gear when you climb to higher altitudes. I don't know which altitude is this, but i roughly remember from flying the 111 in IL2 that it was between 5 and 7 km of altitude. Maybe the old IL2 readme files actually contain the correct value, it should be usable for CoD too.

Finally, to drop bombs you need to map the following keys:

salvo selector previous/next
bomb interval previous/next
arming switch
bombs open/close

Just set the salvo to maximum, arm them, open the bomb bay drop them. To drop them switch to the pilot's seat first (it's a documented bug about bomb release, pressing the drop bombs key on your stick has no effect if you are not in the pilot's seat).

The interval is not a time delay but a spacing of impacts points in meters, so to get correct values for this you will need to do proper aiming (setting speed and altitude over ground in the bombsight).

I assume this is for a video and you just want to show a bomb drop, so here's a few quick pointers.

If using a higher speed value in the bombsight, it will "think" the bombs will need to release with smaller time intervals to achieve a specified impact spacing. I don't know if the altitude setting has any effect on bomb spacing (i think it's only tied to speed).

Just set speed to a reasonable approximation (there are some IAS/TAS conversion charts in the final pages of the manual, both for metric and imperial units, just ignore the wind for now), open your bomb bays and release them.

Thank you, that was extremely helpful!
