Hi Doc,
Depending on what your objectives are - there are plenty of modding options that do not require any programming skill at all. My "MIIC ish" hurricane mod involved downloading the sfs unpack utility and 60 minutes with a text editor - if I can do it then literally anybody can. The texture mods are a little more tricky - but again do not require any specialist skills. Give it a go - you will be surprised what can be done. For all of the flak the developers have gotten on this forum - the game files are logically laid out and are very intuitive - so credit to them on that part at least. :-P
