View Full Version : A couple of questions regarding the StuKa engine management

Hi all,
I am playing around with the StuKa, and have actually managed to get it into the air and I can do a proper diving attack as well. However, I seem to have some trouble getting the most out of its engine. At start-up I wait for the temps to rise to above 40 degrees for both oil and water. During flight I keep them both at about 60-80 degrees.
Now, the trouble is that at full throttle I do not manage to keep up with my Staffel-mates. It is not that they are fast, but I don't get to go much above 220 kmph. With coarse prop pitch I can sneak up on 250 kmph in level flight, wihch is obviously inadequate. I have been looking for some sort of boost button (ATA) but haven't found it. I am guessing that I'm not supposed to use WEP, but am I wrong? The WEP can only be turned on and off, btw.
Also, I seem to have a mild shaking all the while I fly. Is the Stuka supposed to do that, or can it purr along as well as the other German planes?
So, basically, how do I get more power out of the engine?
BTW, didn't the Ju-87 have wheelbrakes? I cannot seem to brake, no matter how hard I step on my rudder pedals...

I haven't flown the 87 much but regarding the breaks I did see a post on here about it and it might be bugged.

and its supercharger does not work in an automatik mode.
You have to shift manually between low and high blower. In real you could only 'force' to use low blower even at "high blower height" to:
1. prepare the engine for a diverecovery at lower heights
2. to improve range

actually, I saw someone using Stuka for dogfighting on the FR Repka server, and doing a he'll of a job with it, as he was besting most British pilots he encountered! so.. it's definitely not bugged.
I haven't flown with it yet, though, but:
- have you the same ordnance as them?
- make sure you've retracted the flaps and the dive break, and closed the canopy
- use fine prop pitch to increase the RPM, and then start coarsing it, while keeping the RPM in the max perf area, and your speed will slowly get up too
- switch the plane to AI and watch the CEM settings he's using

Yes, is a little slow. After the numbers, the B-2 cruise a 3000m with 315 kph for a maximum of 383 kph at 4000m.

Wow, I've mentioned this so many times I've lost count. I hope the developer take notes this time. Yes, it shakes after take-off no matter how well you manage the engine BUT only when you play offline. Try it online if you don't believe me. This annoys me soooo much because I remember it being the last drop before I "shelved" the game. PLEASE MAKE MY LOVELY STUKA STOP SHAKING LUTHIER!

I was gonna say I flew the Stuka on SYN server after reading your last post and the plane didn't shake for me. I don't play single player so it makes sense as to why we see it so different!

Correct, it only shakes offline for some strange reason. It bugs me because I had some great offline mission ideas for the Stuka in the pipeline but put it on hold until they fix the "shake bug".

I cannot seem to turn that yellow supercharger handle in the upper left Corner of the cockpit. The one with automatik written next to it. Does it work for you? Maybe that's it?

it's not turn! it's pull or push!

It also has WEP on a manually selectable lever that could help you catch up to them, default key to activate is backspace.
However, i think it doesn't automatically disengage after a minute or so like it does in the 109, so keep an eye on your temperatures and engine condition.

i dont click around in the cockpits, i have the functions mapped.
And yes, it comes out. Than , in the actual version, you get highblower setting. Activated between ~2600-2800m it improves your ATA.
you get a Supercharger 100% message than in the Digital Info window (if you have set one).

Still shakes though.

I'm not so bothered by the shaking, since it isn't very noticeable. Thank so much for the info on the supercharger. Yes, I do fly with the crutch of the little CEM bars in the corner and I did notice that "S" (Supercharger) didn't budge. Couldn't pull, push or turn the handle, but tomorrow I'll try to map it and see if it does something.
If the supercharger is only usable above 2800 m., though, there must be some other issue as well, because it was right after take-off that the Staffel scooted out ahead of me.
I am beginning to think that I might not get the radiator right. The cowl flaps under the nose don't open up no matter what I do. Did anybody see them opening up? Those would be the water radiator, right? - Cowl flaps work fine on the Blenheim.
Thanks a million for all your feedback! Great to be in a forum where people actually play and know about the sim...

Stuka doesnt shake if you open both radiators.
I have done videos about it

Coolerflaps are only working with running engine in the Ju87......
left of the gunsight you have the buttons, right of it the gauge (with the K=Kühler) that shows on what setting they are.
and no, i dont play, but i know about the sim, therefor i dont play :D

Sorry to take this OT, but do you guys have the "shake bug" .. no, it's more like "rodeo bug" in Bf110 when exceeding 400km/h? I have this both off and online.. when I put the Bf110 in a dive and go beyond 400km/h it starts to wildly shake and bounce all around, heading changing +-10 degrees in every direction. Makes bombing and B&Z a bit hard :)

Other in here say it only works ONLINe, and the only video I can find by you is online flying. Do you have it not shaking off-line too?

I have no shaking offline.
Radiator cowl opens by holding the button open for as much or little as you want.
I'm not that familiar with the 87 on CEM but i get 320kmph at the moment @ 3000m

Thanks ChicoMick. You get that with CEM?

just wait what the next patch will bring............i cant be so far away anymore.
i have these shaking offline - never flew a Ju87 online so far.
perhaps its just an incorrect rpm/boost setting, who knows. I dont bother around with the actual FM/CEMs , IMHO they are almost all off - some more, some less.

Yep. I took it up for the first time today to check the shaking 'bug' .
I was surprised how easy it was flying with full CEM but didn't spend enough time to get it above 3000m.
And no shaking at all, even when I purposely let the oil and water temps overheat, just got oil over the screen and seized engine !

Generally speaking, reducing RPMs a bit tends to help with shaking.
I was able to climb to 7km with a 109 that way when it was still getting fits at high altitude (it has since been improved in a patch) and people claimed it was impossible to go above 5km.
It kind of makes sense, if the air is thin and the prop doesn't get enough of a "bite" then all you get is high RPM and a lot of vibration for not that much thrust...coarsening the pitch a bit helps.
I just don't know how much it should happen and with what severity, or how bad it is in the Stuka.
