What's your recommendation between the Saitek X52 Flight System or the X52 Pro Flight System?
The Pro has this SDK and is programmable (?). Is this something I need?
Other differences that I found.
1. Tri-state LEDs (which are also accessible by the SDK)
2. Dual spring centering mechanism - provides incremental stiffness as you move the stick away from centre
3. Dual hall effect sensors for increased accuracy of the stick axes
4. Metal shaft and centering mechanism for increased durability
5. Selected metal parts
BIG difference in price here so if not needed I'd go for the standard.
What's your take?
I have both but tend to use the standard one more than the Pro. I modified the magnet assembly on the std model (common mod to improve sensitivity) but the same mod on the Pro gave a very non -linear Axis movement and in my opinion the Pro doesn't need the mod as it features dual Hall sensors for the axis. My Std model didn't have dead zone (some do) but the magnet mod certainly inproves the axis response and negates any deadzone issues if there.
I prefer the rotary controls on the std model and find they are far easier to grip/rotate for fine tuning trim. A lot is said about the dual springs on the Pro but I don't 'feel' much difference between either. Both of mine have a small degree of centre 'slop' (which translates into axis movement) and something many find annoying.
Both are programmable using Saiteks SST software and both feature a MFD which displays any names/functions you give to a command. This is really useful as there are so many assignments you can have and I would never be able to remember all of them. Having said that, only the Pro model displays names assigned to the three POV switches - the std model ignores names assigned to the POV's.
They are both good but some people have had problems whilst others have had none over many years of use. The pro model is supported with SDK (mainly for FSX) but it may be possible to integrate the Pro model into CoD when SDK support is releasd by the devs.
The LED colour change feature for different modes and various trigger buttons is just eye candy for me, looks pretty but something I can easily live without on the Std model.

Don't believe it. The difference in stiffness is so small you won't even notice it.
