When Is a Good Time to Start Using Ancient Knowledge Scroll

Starting from Reha?

For those who manage to reach level 60,
did you get Learning Level 3 or just
Level 1?

It depends on what route you're taking (are you visiting Reha early, or is it your last stop before Baal), how many AK scrolls you found, and (to a lesser extent) whether your items are going to need to be supressed soon or not. In general you probably aren't going to use up all your AK scrolls at once - likely you'll use a few in Elon, a few in Reha, a few in Verona/Montero, a few in Sheterra, a few in Nameless... try to use them against enemy heroes, as of the 40 or so most-rewarding fights in the game, maybe 5 of them are not hero fights.

People who reach level 60 use Learning 3. If you can reach 60 with only learning 1, you probably could have reached 61 using learning 3.

Use it against heroes and bosses mainly. Anything that gives over 9k with an AK scroll on is worth it, even if this means leaving stacks of enemy heroes to kill later. Any free scroll afterwards is worth using on reha, nameless and sheterra.

Clear the way of any ordinary fight/enemy encounters leading to access the boss battles: Driller, Frog & Spider. Use Ancient Knowledge then go for those fights in a row (of course having saved them till ready), they give the most XP of any fight.

The best hero battles accessed mid game for the last 2 uses on the scroll are (xp given is what I got when I played them on normal):

Fangol (7535 xp w/ scroll)
Hagni (5472 xp w/ scroll)
Hogan (4604 xp w/ scroll)
Demenion (9,671 xp no scroll, 13,554 with scroll)

Accessed usually a bit later:

Gremlion (29,921 w/s)
Uchkuk (9259 w/s)
Shenobi (13,505 w/s)
Defense Diploma on Elon (6983 w/s)
Rakush (5097 n/s)
Urh-Urh (4574 n/s)
Rakatarh (4650 n/s)

Should give an idea where to best use the Ancient Knowledge scroll.

As MaroonMaurader said, if any of your living items are getting low on morale suppress them before you activate the scroll since item battles use up an AK scroll.
As DGDobrev said, Nameless, Sheterra & Reha have the battles that give the most XP in the game.
