How to travel from first island

I have found two maps and I have a boat. I cannot move from the first island. I have looked a the world map, the individual maps and I cannot find it. I have also travelled by boat along the borders of the sea.
HELP!

- press button "Distant Travel" on top of radar or hotkey 'T'
- select island

This confused me too for a long while even after having two nav charts. Kept going back to the main guy outside the castle and asking "how do you travel to distant lands" - to which his reply referred more to the map than that little button.

Needs to be a popup that points to that little nav wheel when you get your first nav chart.
