I've noticed the amount of activity on this forum consistently going down since the game was released.

Has the buzz just died down a bit, or have many people just given up on the game?

Personally I thought this was going to be one of those games that I can keep playing for quite a long time, but if the community's activity keeps falling like this...

Maybe we'll have a rebound after the patch.

Myeah.. too few people makes less people play.. downward spiral. Hoping the patch might bring some back..

I think it is probably normal. When anything new comes out, people are going to be talking about it, playing allot etc. But, as they progress and enjoy the game for awhile, it becomes not such a big deal.. Not that they do not like the game anymore, or don't play it anymore, but the buzz dies out, and it becomes just another game in their library. That would have to be expected. New games come out, and they move on to share time with the new game releases. Any developer, or publisher that don't expect that, is just living in a dreamworld... Maybe the patch will lite fires again, but it will drop again soon after that "new" had worn off. Buy a new car that you love, and before you know it, it just becomes transportation to and from work.. Human nature.

Developers do the same thing. They are pumped about their product, and soon after it releases, and they publish a patch or two, then it just becomes another project on their resume. They quickly move onto other projects...

I still play it allot. When I first got it, I was spending hours at a time with the controller in my hand. But, now, I play a match, take a break, and I may, or may not get back on and play another... I went from playing many hours a day, to maybe an hour a day.. Still love the game, and it is my favorite one at present.. But, just human nature..

Point is, this shouldn't be a shocker to anyone, especially the development teams, and publishers..

Yep. I never expected this game's community to be massive, but the forum and online has been a bit quiet lately. I think people on the PS3 can blame Uncharted 2 for our loss of activity. Two of the people in my squadron have been playing it all the time, and I'll probably get it when I get more money (still going to play IL-2 though ^^)

Lots of good games coming out these days. People will come back when they get tired of them.

Unfortunately, the other two really active members of my squadron are both gone for the weekend for family stuff, so Im effectively grounded for the weekend. I can't stand playing with a team of all randoms. A CTA this morning where both of the other team were kamikazies, and my only team mate would rather dogfight that shoot the guy trying to land, only aggrevated me.

One time, I was sitting on the runway for like a whole minute, waiting for this guy to kill the enemy plane that was landed too, so I could actually capture it. He felt the need to dogfight with the other fighter (this guy didn't even have bombs). After he killed him, THEN he killed the other plane, crashing in the process. By then, the 5 second respawn was up, and I get kamikazied by the newly respawned plane -_-

I don't mind accidentally crashing when you're trying to kill a landed plane, or even making a kamikaze run when you're plane is on death's door and the landed plane's friends are following you down as you go after him ...but blatant suicide killing with a brand new plane just aggrevates me.

Their main kamikaze pilot is not on good terms with our squadron...so I imagine he was just doing it to piss me off.

Multiplay...lacking depth and need more objectives like new maps, reload planes when landing, less bloom so as to see enemy planes near ground, more ground targets...

Hope patch will address most these.

LOWER THE PRICE FOR DLC...greed and lack of support will kill this game real fast!

Too many arcade games/maps will kill any hope for this game remotely being considered a simulation game...sad.

People will start to think this game is just another arcade combat game. And we all know what became of those type of games on XBOX 360....failed!

Its too hard to find a game online at the hours I play. Since you can't join in session, and hardly any are playing anyway, it can be 10 minutes between rounds sometimes, and I get so little time to play anyway I don't want to spend half of it sitting in a lobby waiting :(

The patch will help for sure, as those who truly care about the kill count have been frustrated (I see why though I just play to play). The cost of the DLC I have to say is nuts now. 400 was debateable, but 800 isn't going to happen. That I imagine will turn people off to it even quicker.

I'm still lurking, waiting for word of a patch, then I'll give it another go (need that low res / hi res model fix so I can see the enemy!).

To be honest a lot of people that I played with regularly, hated the scoring and damage parts of the game. In an average game the credited kills was a third of actual deaths, it drove people nuts. Most said they would be back when it's patched, fixed and fair.

Let's hope the patch comes before another game tempts people to give up and trade it in. Lots of good games about this time of year.

IMHO...The flight sim community is among the smallest in the gaming world in the first place.
I'm trying to spread the word through the PC players but quite a few of these guys don't respect the console games.

Flashpoint came out and so this game is splitting time with it. By no means am I done with IL2. Not planning on buying more games until about Feb since these 2 and BSP cover just about all I need. LOL

Think that's one of the problems: the best side of IL2 is it's sim side, PC veterans think it's not good enough, because it's on a console, and console newbies think it's too hard.

That's just it; you're right. I am one such SIM lover that wanted BoP to be so much more but unfortunately it falls way too short. We'll always share differing views & opinions re: BoP & you know how passionate I have been, regarding my disappointments for this title as I have been on the back of some very cheap & sarcastic digs from your very self (Ted Bundy comparison being the latest I recall).

The only reasons I stay around the forums though is the respect & admiration in the knowledge & passion alot of these forum guys possess in the subject of WWII aviation.

The upcoming patch & DLC Cockpits (assuming the latter still goes ahead) should do for BoP what the new 4.09m & 1.2 AAA patch is currently doing for the PC guys.

BTW Ancient; I bought 2 copies of this title, LOL :-), :-)

Yeah, let's keep it at passionate :).
I can imagine why people would still play on the PC. I'm sometimes thinking of going back myself, but I'll just wait for the patch and see what it does.

P.S. lol on the copies ;)

I don't think this game will ever be popular online, the online is more likely to die than to pick up. It reminds me of a racing 'sim' called 'Race Pro', the online was pretty much dead right from the off and the game bugs and lack of fixes just sealed it's fate. Shame really as it is a damn good racer when you get a decent group of people playing. It just goes to prove that the majority of console gamers are all about the quick fix games which are more arcade in nature. Any decent 'sim' type game has very few people playing online.

I'm still here, its just I spend most of my time playing BOp or codW@W. By the way who here is getting mw2, or are any of you who play W@W still going to stick to that game.

Unfortunatly when MW2 comes out along with all the other christmas rush games, I fully expect it to be imposible to find players on BoP, Whether you host or not. BoP witnessed a huge drop in online players already and that was because of only 1 game release (Op. Flashpoint 2)

Hopefully a hardcore group of sim players will remain on this forum and we will have to organise times for games though the forum.

It would be cool if they just kept expanding the sp portion, not a big fan of mp myself, but I love the sp. Can't wait for the update and some more dlc, Also it would be cool if they added a pacific portion to this game, love to fly a HellCat.

Play on the dover/kent maps with enemies in the LA5 haha. they are so easy to spot being that they have that bright grey/white camo. See them a mile off against the green/brown surface :P

Over stalingrad/belgium...... we be screwed!!

i love sim mode though because i know that they are equally at home struggling to find us at times. So seems fair :D

I have been mostly realistic player, but have really been getting into and enjoying Sim play the past week. I can see myself staying with it with the Sim guys for some time to come yet while we wait for the greatly improved by all our suggestions sequil..

The "less than fair" treatment of the German and American planes has sort of turned me off to the game. I'll give it another go after the update comes out, and if the FW 190 series planes still handle like my mom's minivan -- I'll just move on to some of the other games out there. At the moment, I'm playing Uncharted 2 -- and it's a great game.

Fair statements about the handling of different planes, reminds me of the endless discussions on the simhq site in the IL-2 for PC days. Back then too the soviet planes were far superior to the german. The people complaning the most were called Luftwhiners

That aside I totally agree on the criticism for this in BoP. P51 for example, is almost useless with its enormous turn radius and sluggishness.

It should definately be adressed in a patch, as it should be fairly easy to adjust.

Patch for me, and to get off OFDR for more than 10 minutes.
Also RE-forum traffic, I think we've talked about most of the game related stuff so far and until the patch mixes things up theres not much that isnt just retredding old ground?

Well, complaining about errors in-game isn't the only thing you can do on a forum. You can help people as well.. oh wait, that wasn't true, my bad . Anyways, I think we're gonna see most of the regulars come back after the patch, and that should be enough to play. Especially if we organise it a bit.

Aye, all of the reasons above go for me - still love IL-2, and still play single player (plan to have a good session later today), but the flaws in the multiplayer combined with the time it takes to get a decent game mean that if I'm looking for online action, I'll play Uncharted 2 (phenomenal), Op Flash:Dragon Rising (the coop online rocks) or a host of other games. Will be back to give the patch a good shake though, and see how it goes :).
