Default possible solution to the d3d problem for a few users

I was getting d3d errors trying to launch the game like several other people who have posted. For me the game did not start at all, I got the error after the screen turned black a moment - no amount of installing drivers, direct3d or other software worked.

The solution was simple - for some reason the game did not like my default desktop resolution of 1280x768 widescreen. I switched to 1024x768 and launched the game, once it had written its ini files using this resolution and I had exited I could reset my desktop to 1280x768 and run the game with no further issues.

This is probably only the solution in a very limited number of cases but I hope it helps some other users out there

Default overheating

The game runs at a smooth 30-35fps on max settings (X2 64 4000+, 2GB RAM, 8600GT), but as soon as i start playing, my GPU temp steadily starts going up to 80-85C, according to Speedfan, and it sets off the overheat alarm. At that point i can alt-tab and that does return the temp to it's normal values, but i don't think it will be good for my system if i go on with this procedure for 1-2 hours. I tried playing with the lowest settings and it's the same.

I will get a compressed air can, since i haven't cleaned up the dust lately, but i don't think this is the major reason since i play a lot more graphically demanding games without such problems.

Any solutions or other people experiencing such a problem?

This issue more often appeared on the notebooks. What version are you playing?
